Fashion advice needed!
Aug. 20th, 2009 09:29 amOk, this might sound really strange coming from someone who makes costumes for a hobby, but I could use your help.
As of Monday I hope to be cycling to work. Yay! As of Monday, this presents me with a wardrobe challenge. After all, I'm in the office and I'm supposed to look a little bit like I know how to iron a blouse. I can't really stroll in in my yoga pants and polo shirt and expect everyone to not notice the sport shoes. But I really do need to wear sporty clothes on my bicycle because it will help with thenekkid-ness sweating.
I hope to have space for a small bag, and really: linen does fold rather small (if not crease-free). A stick of deodorant, a flask of water, my cell phone, mp3-player, wallet. The change of clothes will be the most important.
I don't really feel like dashing into the bathroom as soon as I get to work and changing in one of the stalls. Since the air conditioning in the building is pretty severe for Dutch standards, nearing American ones (I was cold while it was 30+°C outside!), I guess I could just add the fancy clothes over my sportswear. I plan on wearing short-legged cycling trousers. I don't think my yoga-like pants will work, because they might get caught in the chain.
So: what do I wear over my sports clothes? The easiest, and so far only, thing I've come up with is wrap-pants. I love this image of them.
I need more: handy pants, lovely blouses. For autumn I'll probably change out of the shirt I cycle in and wear a clean, pretty longsleeve, and I love blouses. Let me hear your ideas!
(What it all boils down to is: "The weekend's coming up and I need inspiration to sew")

Or Marilyn Monroe pants?

And I like skirts, but I have some trouble with the matching shoes... right now my feet are shredded because of the sandals I wore this week.

Date: 2009-08-20 08:03 am (UTC)Cycling with wrap pants, or walking around with heavy wind, is not recommended either because they will blow open nearly up to your waist.
However, they are very comfortable to wear.
As for the advice: I'd go for a shower/changing room if they have one and just wear whatever is appropriate and comfortable and can be transported without to much wrinkles. ;-)

Date: 2009-08-20 09:31 am (UTC)As long as you are wearing something underneath it's not that bad if a wrap dress slips once in a while, but you can't have that happen daily.

Date: 2009-08-20 11:34 am (UTC)And they do! I made myself a wrapdress once, with the closing on the back. When I walk outside I always (!) keep one end in my hand otherwise the wind flips it open. It's a lovely dress but I have to redo the pattern because this doesn't work.

wrap-blouses can be easy for the top...
I have some wrap-pants myself, they are nice, but not wrapping enough... if you make the overlap too small, when you sit the flaps will fall open and you'll have a very nice but very high split ;-)
