With the sanctions towards Russia and the Russian propaganda machine running overtime, I'm taking steps to preserve the entries in this journal... just in case.
Livejournal is after all, owned by a Russian company and although I've never been particularly worried about privacy (You shouldn't be posting on the internet about things that shouldn't be on the internet!) there's always a possibility that someone decides the sanctions against Russia should be increased or the access to the global internet for Russian-based things should stop.

I started this blog 20 years ago, and that's a lot of data to manually download. Luckily, Dreamwidth has a little tool to help me. While I'm typing this update, the script is busy importing my icons, friends, tags and entries into https://janestarz.dreamwidth.org/
As far as I know, people using an OpenID and are on my friends list here on Livejournal will be able to keep track there as well, as OpenID is also imported.
Photos hosted on Livejournal will not copy over though, and some of my user icons will be lost. I have a permanent Livejournal account, and that has come with some perks in the past. I'm not going to be spending that kind of cash on Dreamwidth before I'm sure I want to keep using it.

For now, my blog entries are safe. Be sure to bookmark the link above, and let me know if you've got a Dreamwidth account I should add on my friends list too!

Apparantly the hostname has already been switched to the new IP address we've been given. This means our mail server is no longer receiving e-mails.

HINT: This is a good time to not send mail to my @janestarzdotcom adresses anymore.

Anyone who wants to help us work on the new house is welcome on Saturday September 17th, from noon until you don't want to help us any longer.

We will provide snacks, tea, sodas and food around six-thirty pm. Since we'll be staying the night there, you can stay as long as you like.

We have ceilings to be sanded, ceilings to be painted, walls to be painted, a bathroom to be cleaned, doors to be made to fit, electronics to be waylaid and a garden to be molested (and the proper tools for most of this). If you have two left hands, I have stuff to be carried from the attic to the shed as well and someone to feed the masses is always helpful!

If you want to crash at our place as well, please be advised to bring your own airbed and sleeping bag. The adress is:
Van Berkumstraat 25
5014 MB Tilbug
the Netherlands ;-)

Call me if you're lost: 06 46 337 837
And bring your GPS because they're working on some roads. The A59 will be closed troughout the weekend.

If you really want to bring us something, chocolate cookies and (native) plants are always welcome!

I have these wonderful marvellous business cards. I've had them printed at Moo with some of my photo's after a tip from [livejournal.com profile] woran.
Now Moo, who sends me a witty Moosletter every now and then, has an offer. If I refer a friend and they print something, I get perks. Yay for perks!

I love Moo, because they're funny and they do lovely things with design. If you're a photographer, you get to upload pictures and they divide the set (of 100 or 200) so you have a few of each of these. But they do some more standard designs as well. Rounded corners too!
A personal business card just says so much more about you, and you can re-design the back of the card to show whatever you want (the Amazon adress for your book, your e-mail address, your twitter feed...)

They don't just do business cards, but greeting cards, postcards and sticker books as well.
Click here! for some of the lovely Moo business cards, mini cards etc. and get a 10% discount on your first order!

Moo also had an offer for About.me: if you created a profile at About.me you'd get a free set of business cards. In the interest of networking, creating a portfolio etc. it never hurts to be easily found
The best part about About.me is that you can add your other social media as links to your page. Twitter, Wordpress, Flickr, Facebook etc. And the designs for your own page are pretty awesome. It's a great place to start to know someone.

Here's my About Me!
I'll have to build it to something more, but it's a good start for now.

And this concludes our advertising for today.

Yay 28!

-----

With all muscleaches subsiding, I figured it was now or never and I took the recumbent out. I still had a usb-stick to deliver to Nieuwerkerk. It was only five or six kilometers to BigBoss' place, and when I had frummaged the envelope through their letterbox, I got back on the bike.
I wasn't done cycling by far!

Continuing towards Gouda I soon found a sign for cyclists, which told me Moordrecht was only four kilometers away. As we've been looking to buy a house there, I figured I'd meander on down to Moordrecht and have a look-see. I ended up here: )

According to my cycling computer I did 24 kilometers in 1 hour 17 minutes. Not bad!

Life happened.

"Niets is definitief.

Anyone who wishes to celebrate my birthday with me is welcome to drop in on the day itself, Tuesday May 12th, between 19.30 and 23.00 hours.

I realise this is the middle of the larp season, so I had to choose between two evils (during a larp or in the middle of the week). I'm not much in the mood for a large celebration, but there will be home-made cake, coffee and juice!

I really am blessed and have few wishes, but if you are adamant about bringing me a gift, fresh fruit or a boekenbon are welcome visitors ;-)

As you may have heard, we're busy setting up Dolle Griet Events. I'm working very hard on my first Rulesystem and am writing specifications.

For these specifications, I sure could use a hand. I need people who are willing to tell me, from whatever point of view they have, what they would like to do. The only thing you would need to do is try and imagine the situation.
You don't have to be an IT-wiz, you don't have to be a roleplayer. You could be anyone, anywhere.

How it will work?
* Anyone willing to participate will be entering with their name and a valid e-mail address. The e-mail addresses and names will be confidential, and only the DGE GM's will know who is helping.
* I will be coördinating this, so I will be sending you an e-mail - with all e-mail addresses in the BCC field for privacy - with a question. This question can be as simple as "Name one enemy you'd like to see in a larp or a movie that you think will be interesting", but it could also be "What spells do you wish you could use" or something more technical.
* The e-mails will only contain one question or case at a time, and there will be time in between e-mails so I can work with the results, so it's not like I will spam you from here to Genoa.

The key to this is imagination. I will set a reference, give you a case within which the question can work. All you have to do is imagine what you can do with it, within it, without it, outside it and e-mail it back to me.

I will work with your comments, try to make them work within my setting, and see what you come up with. I hope your ideas will surprise me. I think you can show me what things we'd really need to build into our setting.

If you want, your name will be added to the Many Thanks To page for the event you're brainstorming for.

If you want to participate, send an e-mail to annet [ape] dolle-griet [dud] com and I'll add you to the list of Santa's Little Helpers. Please include your name or nickname and country of residence so I know who you are.

Thanks!

I was against Plus level since they first introduced it. Ads do not belong in my personal diary. I still get to see them on the login page when I log into the site from work where I refuse to keep the cookies. It seems to be that the cookies expire sooner too.

As a blissful owner of a Permanent account I will never have to pay anything to Livejournal ever again. I've paid my dues, and if they ever fuck with my account and ask for more money, I'll just host my journal on my own website if need be. No handy friends page, but soit.

Livejournal never announced it, but it is no longer possible to create a basic account, which so many of my friends have. This is the no-ads-but-no-perks kind of account for everyone who can't or won't pay for a service such as livejournal. They are the content generators, the reason why the community of livejournal is so much fun to be a part of. I can read how my friends are doing by clicking one link and reading that page. It would be very lonely without them.

Today I'm posting a couple of links. Because of the killing of Basic accounts some people have thought of a way to protest: by boycotting Livejournal tomorrow for 24 hours (midnight GMT, which is 1am CET Fridaynight until Saturdaynight 1 am).

Some links for you:
- Original post of Brad Fitzpatrick, father of Livejournal, about Basic Accounts disappearing;
- A post about what this will mean if your paid subscription ends;
- The Rodney McKay Principle of Consumerism as applied to LiveJournal (or: how we can make our displeasure known);
- Why we are holding a content strike;
- What we can achieve with a content strike;
- Strike times around the globe;

I will not be posting or visiting Livejournal tomorrow at all. Even my smallest contribution in not eating their bandwidth might be felt.
I'll be too busy with other things anyway.
Feel free to join us in this protest.

Friday 21st of March, midnight GMT!

This afternoon my mother, Luc, NoKey and myself will check into the De Ampt van Nijkerk, a hotel near de Veluwe. Look at all the forest nearby!

We will probably
- visit my grandmother
- use the hotel's sauna and swimming pool extensively
- go to Enschede to Dragonheart
- and have loads of sex rest.

We'll be back on Monday, and I am very glad I have Tuesday off as well!

Morgen ben ik er niet. Ook niet op mijn mobiel.

vr 26 oktober

Livejournal doesn't seem to be e-mailing me comments, or Yahoo is not working (again, second time this week). My replying to comments might take a while.

If I'm needed desperately you can e-mail me at janestarz at my website (you know, janestarz.com).

Dear readers,

I will not be updating today. No, I am too busy catching a troll for my birthday-dinner. You see, the catching, cleaning and cooking of a troll is quite tricky. They hardly ever want to come out in the daytime, they've never washed in their life, and cooking...don't get me started. It's like cooking stone.

But for those of you who will still want to come over tonight, I've prepared goblin treats to go with the coffee and some elf ears filled with cream cheese and chives for if the night lingers on.

I hope to see you all tonight,

Jane.

Those of you who fail to have found a friend or anyone else willing to donate credit card money or an invitation code with which you can buy pron enter the fantastic realm of Livejournalling, pay special attention.
Livejournal has gotten rid of the 'invite codes', which means that free (and limited, blast them to deadjournal realms) accounts can be obtained by any and all of you.

Now, I myself have a free account, which enables me to have my own journal online, with reliable archives and all the nifty mood icons. It does not allow me to have more than 3 user pics (which is good, otherwise I'd be in a dilemma which one to use for THIS post), but it works really well.

Still not convinced? Well, for all you pervy hobbit fanciers, consider the following.
"This livejournal is mostly friends-only" my userinfo says. And it's true, in a way. Some of my more perverse interesting activities are in fully detailed descriptions, which can only be read if you are on my friends list.
Thus, by getting a LJ account, befriending me, and hoping you get befriended back, you might be able to read all the gory details of my life. (I love the power)

Main objective is ofcourse mr.Finn, who has so adequately joined the ranks of Deadjournal (and thus, misses all of the action), but anyone is welcome to join and try to break through in the realms of my friends list [insert eerie music here].
