Since I sewed the last buttons on yesterday we made some time to take a picture or two today. This first picture can double as a new profile picture for the Dolle Griet website and such. The fit from the front is impeccable.

Above is the picture I can show everywhere. Even if it's shot in my own kitchen, the light is good and the fit is great and the blazer is beautiful. But since this is my blog and this is where the real story is, you also get to see the lesser side:

In any case, sewing-wise I am content and I'll be handing it in tomorrow. (I can adjust the fit somewhere in the summer, after I get my grade.) It's a pretty great winter blazer and it's nice and warm and the best part is that the itchy scratchy part of the wool doesn't bleed through the lining!
The fabric was bought years and years back in Rotterdam at Schröder, and I had initially intended it to be a pair of chique trousers. Now it's a blazer, and I hope to wear it happily for a long time to come.

This afternoon Doortje had a playdate. We invited a larper over with one of her kittens to see how Doortje would react. If it went well, we would have an addition to the household. Doortje might become a big sister!

And it went really, really well:

Kennismaken-1

This picture was taken as soon as Doortje came close enough to the kitten, and if you can read cat body language, you can see she's a little excited (large pupils) but not intimidated or scared (curl in her tail).

The kitten explored, and Doortje first watched him go from her perch under the desk chairs before finally trying to lick him and then showing him her displeasure at him crawling into HER box with pattern paper. There was no malice in it though, and I think she behaved exemplary!
The kitten is now 9 weeks old, so he's gone back to his mother for another while. He will have a final vet visit this week and as soon as he's really sick of his mom he can come live with us.

I'm in no hurry to separate him from his mom, so it can be a week or two until he arrives. Meanwhile, we have to think of a new name for this boy. He's now called Harris, but we don't like the sound of it in Dutch. And just wait, if we were to name him 'Dreumes' (Dutch word meaning something like 'runt' or 'tiny one') he'll grow up to be an 8 kilo beast.
