Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Dec. 18th, 2002 09:43 pmTremendous, splendid wonderful: The movie. Too bad my two companions were a bit odd next to my total in character behavior. The Dreamwalker had a hangover (big disappointment!), and Merrick might have thought that role-playing, being one of only ten people dressed up (tops) wasn’t necessary. My character Sarin (pronounce Saahr-Ihne), who had seemed so vibrant and alive this morning, paled and faded towards the west when she found out she was alone.
I found tremendous pleasure in actually attacking a person who came all dressed up as an orc, with cardboard Sauron-eyed shield and a club that would never pass Larp safety regulations. I whooped his ass alright, told him he had fought well (after he said he forfeited) and gained a lot of attention from that. Whenever people told me how nice it was that I was dressed up, I frowned and said that this was my regular clothing. When a guy told me I had nice ears, I raised an eyebrow and said, very dry, I had been born with them and that I liked his ears too. Even if they weren’t 1500 years old. I’m a pain in the non-larping world’s ass.
*tries to untie the extra hair*
My head hurts from the heavy weight of that braid. I am very much looking forward to the promised massage tomorrow…because I’m very tense and stressed. For actually going over there. How complicated.
Finally, the hair is off…I’m not typing very fast when I’m trying to untie velour and elastic stuff that’s tangled into my hair. There must be ear-glue all over my hair…it’s very sticky but hasn’t bugged me all night. Except for hurting then. And the ears are still on! *Yays*
There even was this guy from the local newspaper and some journalismstudents from the third year of our college. Too bad the latter refused to take pictures and the other one took pictures I’m probably not even in. The mother of Merrick and the Dreamwalker did take pictures though. And we got a cinemaposter for free. (Now where am I supposed to hang that in my tree? There’s just not enough space…even if Arwen and Aragorn are in it!)
Some thoughts about the movie.
I learnt that Gollum is hilarious…which I never realized while reading the book. I was like “Don’t trust him, he’s mean!” but now I see why Frodo trusted him. He’s just hilarious.
Some trees are just not as huggable as others. If I ever mistake an Ent for a tree, I’m in big trouble. They’re not very…huggable.
The battle (okay, the entire movie was battle) was great though…I intensely enjoyed seeing Legolas swing his thing (arrows…they’re called arrows…) and Aragorn too.
Gandalf looks better with gray hair.
I almost cried when Haldir died. It was just so sad! I never expected to see an elf die like that! It’s just so terrible! Sarin silently wept but there were no tears on my face.
More elvish dialogues to learn from this movie.
And I’m quite confused whether Arwen went to the West or not…but I suppose that will clear up.
Oh yes. Eowyn is a bitch. Go Arwen!
We elves stick up for eachother.
It’s either full moon tonight or tomorrownight. I hope it will be sort of cloudless tomorrow. Perhaps even watch the stars with the Moon. He’d seen something like that in his dreams and I sure won’t object to it.
The Snowcloak certainly has passed the test with glory. I never was cold for a second. Not even when I walked home at ease, looking up at the moon every now and then, watching my breath become white clouds, or almost slipping over a frozen patch of water. It’s freezing, I’m not wearing much and I’m not cold. Revelation!
I’m off to bed now. Sleep, perchance to dream.

Date: 2002-12-19 01:55 am (UTC)They're re-usable. You just slide them over your own ears and glue them using Mastix, which is in a jar similar to nailpolish...including the brush. I have a big wild piece of young hair at the front of my head, which I've brushed over the edge between my own ears and the latex elfy ones. And sprayed it very tight. (I believe you're not unfamiliar with stubborn hair?)
There are some pictures but I doubt it's very obvious how the ears are. Perhaps I'll make a tutorial one day about elfears.
At the premiere I also saw a woman who had self-made ears. But they weren't glued over her own ears, like mine.
And mine don't even get close to the movie's ears. But still, it looks great.

Date: 2002-12-19 02:46 am (UTC)I've read the book, be it 4 years ago and skipping all of the tales of the Riders of Rohan and the Knights of Gondor. I must confess I can hardly remember the Arwen storyline. I do remember she was one of only four women (including Shelob) in the book.
