I installed it a few weeks ago*, because I wanted to take advantage of the spring rains. I had no idea this much had fallen last week, but to be honest, we do have a big flat roof gathering the water.

Proof of Rain and Proof of Barrel as well.

There's still muck from the cypress getting in there, but there's not much I can do about that. I've made a very experimental leaf guard on the roof, but it's far too big to hold these small bits out. I hope it doesn't affect the water quality.

Could you perhaps cover the guard with some 'vitrage'? That should keep even the smallest bits out. And as long as it is not too finely woven it will let the water through without much delay.

I can't even get the guard to go down all the way to the roof covering. I used chickenwire which I folded over the edge as best I could. The only way to fix it to the roof would be screws (which could make the roof leak) and ducktape (which won't stay sticky in the water). I doubt the cloth would make much of a difference...
