Chase the lightning
Sep. 10th, 2011 11:35 pmAs we drove back from Tilburg today we ran into a thunderstorm in the West. As we were going due west on the A58, we had a pretty decent view of the spectacle as we were going, but when we came to Breda we actually had to turn North to make our way home.
We followed the A16 for all of five minutes and then we hunted the lightning, going back onto the A58 towards Roosendaal. Near Rucphen we quit the highway and found a pretty decent deserted spot where we could have a good view on the thunderstorms making war on one another.
I wouldn't be a photographer if I didn't at least try and get it on camera, and guess what? If you snap maybe a hundred pictures of a thunderstorm, you might just get lucky.
I got lucky TWICE:

The most amazing thing. Can't focus on any damn thing because to crappy phonecam the whole damn sky is pitch-black. Can't even steady it on a tripod or work with long exposures or burst shots. But yes, if you pull the trigger every second or so, you just might hit something.
We chased the lightning all the way home, where I drove on a highway with the blazing speed of 70 kph in at least three centimeters of water. Scary shit. By now it's calmed down a bit, and I get to be very proud of two lovely lightning pictures done with the camera in my phone.
