Saturday didn't work so well for me, it was very warm (finally, right at the start of September, Summer decides to throw us a curveball...) and though we did a second layer on the second bedroom walls, I fled outside, nauseated and taken by the heat.

NoKey did another layer on the wood that now covers the horrible, paper-filled cracks in the main bedroom ceiling so that ceiling is ready to receive it's first full layer of latex. Mom battled the living room ceiling -- still haven't heard anything from that painter that came so highly recommended, so I'm quite ready to start on it my own damn self! -- and then proceeded with the skylight of the 'dining appendix'. Three buckets of soap later, she was hoisted back into the house by NoKey because she couldn't make it on her own. Meanwhile, Luc swaggered the band-sanding machine on the kitchen and bathroom doors and moved the locks so the doors close again. Huzzah!

The firethorn cutoffs have finally been processed and gone, and underneath it is the rich soil I've come to know. Laiv hauled some rotten leaf trash out of the "pond" and tossed it into the compost barrel I bought on Friday, setting off the thing with some excellent bacteria. I expect the first rich compost by spring, actually.

I stayed outside in the shade for most of the day, working on the garden. We uncovered several blackberry trails, some of which have found a new home working their way around the crappy white wall of the shed and others have been removed. I planted Goldenrod (Solidago) as well as Vervain (Verbena officinalis) in between. The lovely red rose that grows near the corner has space & light again, the hydrangea has been cut back, and I planted my Lythrum, a small Echinacea and of course the Agastache foeniculum [livejournal.com profile] kenshinichinyo suggested.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot another butterfly favorite: Hemelsleutel (Sedum telephium) which is definitely not a native but goes by so many funny names in English that it should be illegal: Orpine, Livelong, Frog's-stomach, Harping Johnny, Midsummer-men, Orphan John, Witch's Moneybags (thank you, Wikipedia!)

Actually, I managed to get most of the plants on my wish list at the Intratuin, where I'll definitely try and get a job once we live in Tilburg. Ye gods, I just love that place!
Things still on my wish list: Ereprijs (Veronica longifolia), Gelderse Roos(Viburnum opulus), Vlier (Sambucus Nigra), Boerenwormkruid(Tanacetum vulgare), Wede(Isatis tinctoria), Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) and any other native plant people feel the need to bestowe upon me. I love plants that attract bees and butterflies.

I have about one square meter free, that can get some edibles next year (beans, lettuce, etc.) and mom brought me some strawberries that will go in the corner next to the rosemary, the "pond" and the path. One thing I still need to plant is the Buddleja, which will go into the corner that still needs sorting (brambles there) and the Physalis if it survives its transplant.

It would have been better (as for getting the house ready for habitation) had I just worked inside, but it was too warm and this would get their roots in the soil before winter strikes. The nausea stayed while I was inside, but quickly went away when I was outside.

On Sunday we opted out. I had already worked in the new house for two days, and could really use a day at home. Since I don't want to and can't start on new projects right now since my fabrics are packed, I sogged behind the PC for a bit, painted some nerf guns and glued the 1000-piece movie poster puzzle of Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country onto a bit of triplex. This last bit of work had been waiting for attention for six years or so, so it's good to get it done and it's just the mind-numblingly boring chore I can do right now. Once we manage to make a cover for the thing we can hang it in the hall in Tilburg.
We also took out the recyclables (glass and paper) and NoKey spent most of the day washing things. Which reminds me: I should have hung my coat to dry last night :(

Right now, I could really do with a day of nothing, but work is calling and dad won't tell me how his day at the hospital went either, so it's back to the grindstone and hanging on for now.

Looks like it's fairly easy to grow elderberry from clippings, might be worth looking into.

You're doing pretty well, all considered, better than I'd do. You took that end, and you - well, you took it. And that's - Well, I guess that's somethin'

Sunday was mostly spent sogging on a chair, trying to make sense of things and failing. But getting those old chores out of the way makes a start of somethin' anyway.
I guess it will never really make sense and you can't answer all the questions Why. So here's an end, and here's another end, and you just see where you end up.

At least the puzzle won't be one of those "Yeah, I need to do it and all I need to do is make some time for it, but... meh... Oh dear, it's still on my chore list" things that drag you down anymore. Take what you can get.

Having a garden sounds wonderful.

It never really was on the chore list, it was mostly on the ignore & forget list. But it's one of those mindnumbingly boring things that really work well for me right now.
Next up: repairs & alterations to clothes & costumes!
