Villefranche, Côte d'Azur
May. 20th, 2011 06:21 pmAfter a sumptuous dinner last night we did the smart thing and retired to our room. (I'm cabined up with
alhandra_s.)
The dinner was quite delicious. I chose a "rainbow salad" as a starter, richly drizzled with a slim raspberry vinaigrette. There was a glass of fruity white wine as accompaniment, paid for by Eclipse and pressed upon us by the three CEO's who insist we have a good time.
My main course was a good piece of Black Angus surloin and some full red wine. As aperitif a glass of bailey's kahlua and ice cream as dessert. Needless to say, my diet is sufferying quite badly as I am thoroughly enjoying myself.
This morning I opened the balcony doors to another azure sea, but once we were down to breakfast on the third floor, I could see we were arriving at Villefranche.
As guests were queing up to leave the cruise for a day, the 68 (!!!) employees of Eclipse present on this cruise filed into the conference rooms on the 2nd floor for our obligatory training and presentation.
After a lovely lunch (salad, some fries and a bit of bread) followed by a cup of coffee, some of the very tasty lemonade they make here and an oatmeal-raisin cookie, we boarded a tender (boat) bound for Villefranche.
Colourful, hillside-built, filled with spring flowers, tourists and a lot of waterfalls of the French language. I climbed the steep alleyways up the hillside, leaving my colleagues behind me.

Villefranche-sur-Mer as seen from the cruise ship. Panorama of 7 photos. Stitch in Hugin.
Well, the pictures speak for themselves I think, but thirst spoke a bit louder. Inside a boulangerie I spoke the words of invokation and resurrected my rudimentary middle-school knowledge of French.
"¡Hola! Je voudrais une grande bouiteille d'Evian, pára kaló."
Or some such.
Souvenirs were bought, I drank my Evian and bought another bottle of l'eau, I wrote some cards for home and managed to get my ass on board in time to park ma derrière dans le sunshine for an hour before dinner.
And while I soak up these lovely vitamins from the sky, I'm writing a blog entry. Feel the sunshine!
