Paper LJ: Barcelona
May. 19th, 2011 05:57 pmWith a fresh sea breeze (how not?) coming in from the balcony doors it's time to lie down and have a go at writing/typing what's going on.
This morning in the dreary rainy Rotterdam morning, I took a train, pulling a trolley bag behind me, expecting to go to Barcelona and some company training. Perhaps it would be dull, but at least it would be a break from the office.
We met up, colleagues all, at Schiphol Airport around 07.30 am. The airplane wasn't very big, but it would fly us to Spain. In-Europe flights aren't very interesting and customs checks are very minor.
Since the iPad thing at work in December, many of my colleagues had brought theirs and there was significant Bluetooth racing going on during the flight. I amused myself with re-reading Scott Kelby's books and preparing myself for an urban shoot.
After landing and luggage retrieval, we boarded two buses - 68 colleagues all in all - and and drove off.
Now, we still had no info on which hotel we'd be staying at, so we craned our necks and chatted, keeping an eye out to see where the bus would be taking us.
Finally, Maurice took the mic and told us, as the bus pulled up to...

Surprise!
That giant cruiseship over there, you really can't miss it, the one called "the Liberty of the Seas"? That was where we'd be staying at for the next four days. Wow!
We wouldn't be staying at Barcelona....the cruise ship would depart in the afternoon and set out for Villefrance (France) where we'd be anchored for a day, only to continue on to Mallorca. From Mallorca we'd fly back to Schiphol on Sunday.
After a gruelling line at the cruise terminal, we finally boarded and made our way to luxurious cabins at port-side to dump some bags and then to the café for some lunch.
Chrome and brass flickred and glittered. Fresh salad greens and one of the best hamburgers ever, fresh cookies, pasta, pizza, fruits....I was ravenous!
Well, I had breakfasted in the train around seven and had some chocolate underway, but this was the first real food I got and it was already 15:30!
After the obligatory safety drill the ship departed around five and we're now out to open sea. Dinner is in an hour and it's high time to get a cup of tea.
Here's to being pampered and spoiled!
