Homework & Mock-ups
May. 4th, 2011 11:01 amSince I skipped school one evening in lieu of Roger Water's The Wall and I was sick for one evening and there was a holiday in between, I had not gone to school for nearly four weeks. Last Monday I went back, saw I missed the basic pants pattern (I neeeeeeed to make some new pants!) and that there's a whole lot of homework piled onto my plate.
Determined to catch up, I started on the first assignment last night.
We have to draft two dresses with interesting curved and square design lines - a challenge! - a vest with square design lines, a pants pattern and of course the collar we learned to draft last Monday.
This will seriously cut down on time I have for sports this week. Tonight is the Remembrance of the Dead so I will not be going to the gym but I can draft another pattern for my homework before 8 pm.
Last night I drafted the first of the two dresses we needed to make and then finished the mock-up for my gambeson. Even though I put the left sleeve in the right armscye, it fit well enough to make me hopeful. but there's still the problem of not being able to move in it.
There are pictures but I'm saving these for the official dress diary, which I will be starting as soon as I finish the sketches for the outfit.
If I do one piece of homework each night, I'll be right on track soon enough. But drafting all night is boring, so I can also finish the last pieces of spare time off with some light sewing.
There's still a summer coat that needs finishing, after all. Never mind my mother's quilt!
Tonight I plan to do the other summer dress of my homework, and re-draft the gambeson pattern with more added ease. (+1/+4 in stead of +½/+1)
And maybe I'll get around to finding my sketching pad and making a few sketches too.
As for the homework, that will leave the vest, the pants and the collar for Thursday and Friday...
