Bartender with(out) plot
Nov. 8th, 2010 11:39 amThis Charm barnight was quite a thing. The preparations surely didn't go without a hitch, and I was a little confused about when I was supposed to arrive, but in the end it all worked out so I shouldn't say anything else about that.
I had asked for the bartender role, partially because I enjoy tending bar and waiting tables, and partially because Dolphgirl wouldn't be joining us. And there was plot, boy was there ever plot.
"Players have often complained about having too much plot at the barnight." Margrietje said. I checked the plotbook: a meagre 26 pages, including backgrounds of different races.
Initially I'd wanted to play a feline -- we're leaving the feline lands, so this would be my last chance. A full weekend of make-up would be a disaster for my face, so the single bar-night wouldn't be too bad. But the barnight would have a bar-morning and my nose has been acting up: infections under the skin and a slightly purplish tinge spoiled my last two weeks. So I decided against it after discussing it with
cabaray and
omdathetkan.
The night was fun, players did their things and they were embroilled by the loud greenskin Chieftan Dûrmatz and his shaman and goblin. A necromancer paid the meeting an unexpected visit. And of course everyone was engaged in their own little plots and plans.
Not a single one of the players asked if they needed to pay for their drinks. Only two people actually spoke with me besides ordering a drink. And only one guy actually asked my name.
So Periz, the bartender, didn't quite get her plot played. Oh well. I had fun nevertheless.
Perhaps after a few events we can educate the players about etiquette. And paying the bar bill.
Also, in addition to the 851 pictures I've been editing of the StarTalent semi-finals (half-way through, roughly) I now have 350+ pictures of Charm barnight to edit....

Date: 2010-11-08 11:19 am (UTC)It's just a gathering of characters in a bar, sometimes with a little bit of plot. It is the part of fantasy roleplay that you never do in larp, but you sometimes see in D&D -- when the characters are underway from the spring event to the autumn event (or point A and point B), and they stop for a night at a bar, and they sit and they talk.
People think of things their characters would want to do or talk about before hand, and this was the problem with my character: they were too engrossed in their own things to pay attention to my NPC barwench.
