The shop that didn't exist yet
Oct. 28th, 2010 11:11 am"You should take those blue crates they have at Hornbach;" Drahkan said. "I can just pile them into the back of the bus without even looking."
Hornbach. The awfully loud, American-looking DIY supply/hardware store with an orange and pink colour scheme. Right. I could hate the store for every single one of those reasons, but that's one for another time, because I haven't actually ever visited the Hornbach stores.
I checked the website and had a look at their flyer. Well, whaddaya know, they did have those awesome blue crates with the lid like interlocking fingers! And they were on sale in October. Squee! I checked where the nearest Hornbach was, and it turned out to be in Nieuwerkerk.
I dreamed about one or maybe two of the smaller crates, finding a square basket to fit right into it (for IC storage) and buying glass jars for honey, chocolate paste, sugar, coffee, salt... anything we could need at the Moots. Drawing my own labels. Our Pathfinder kitchen would have a dash of hobbit.
I parked the car and whipped out my phone. "Hi honey, it's me again. Could you check on Google Maps where this address is? I've driven the length of the Hoofdweg twice, and I can't find the store. It's colours are orange and pink. They have loads of flags. I can't be overlooking it!"
Hoofdweg Noord 25-A. 25-A....25-A.... I drove into a dead end and started to turn the car around. Only then did I see the sign. "Muscles like you never had before! This is where we're building a new Hornbach Store!"
Huh.
I turned the car and exited the dead end. I drove by the sign. It was standing outside a sandy lot, with nothing so much as resembling a foundation yet.
When I got home, I checked the website again. A picture of generic Hornbach hardware store splashed off the screen. I imagine the tools were ordered by size. The address was Hoofdweg Noord 25-A, Nieuwerkerk a/d IJssel.

Date: 2010-10-28 12:17 pm (UTC)Kist waar de DO in zat
Kookkist (gevonden houten gereedschapskist)
