Printing pictures -- Hema.nl
Oct. 12th, 2010 08:58 amI've been curious about printing pictures for a while, and now that I have an awesome camera I should seriously consider printing more pictures as I gain skillz. I selected a few roleplay- and non-roleplay photo's I took, and uploaded them to Hema.nl to have them printed and shipped to a Hema store near my home.
The Bad
One thing I noticed was that without ActiveX and Java, I have to upload my images one by one. At some 5 MB per photo, this takes a while. Of course you can walk away from the pc and make some tea and completely forget about your upload until you sit down to check your mail, but I'm thinking maybe the site could be more user-friendly for non-Windows users.
The Good
Choosing how many prints you want from which image and which size is easy-peasy. And as an extra bonus, once you continue the order, you can choose whether they need to do do colour correction on the photo's. This is good!
Not everyone post-processes their pictures after taking them, and offering the option (so that you can opt-out) will ensure that your photo's will not undergo any more treatment after you upload them.
The Results
I didn't opt out of the colour-correction, since I uploaded the original images and I was curious what they would do to them, and I got a good taste of how ugly that can be. Now for everyone that just plugs in their camera and ActiveX'es them to Hema.nl this can be a nasty surprise.
The Verdict
I'm unsure whether I'll use the Hema.nl photoservice again. It's a lot of work to upload the pictures to them. On the other hand, I now have an account and I like that you can choose to disable the colour correction.

There you go met de bovenste 3 foto's :)
