After a week of not doing much, I spent the weekend at the Moots. Of course, Iota is a bit too small to move all of our shit over there, so I combined my course in Vianen on Thursday with dropping off some of our things like the tent and tarps at Tilburg, so Drahkan could pack them in his bus.
The Moots itself was kind of fun. I hardly had any play, though, so that is b-a-d.
The Pathfinders are a group of crazy scouts. We come from Nogardion, where Chaos is trying to exterminate all life. The Pathfinders go to Rendell to complete their training and are then used for insurgency, information gathering and guerilla missions. If there's one thing we hate, it's Chaos.
On the Vortex we soon figured out that our weapons, normally very effective, had very little use against the Chaos warriors we encountered there. The Pathfinders decided to grasp any means necessary to do their jobs. Mort, Rakoth, Choris, Danara, Bart, and Logan went for the priestly side of things, while Frankie went to study magic at the mage's guild. It seemed she had some aptitude.
So there we were: five priests (Mort didn't join us at the Moots) and one mage. The priests infiltrate the priest's guild and take over, and Frankie... tries to make contact with the mage's guild. Ziggy, Kalor and Ekitch are forthcoming enough, but Frankie has some problems getting her grubby paws into the guild. She can't read, she can't really abide the "Fighter's Guild" so the Battle Mages are really not her thing, so she's off on the fringe somewhere. I'm not quite being ignored, but I definitely don't fit in.
Previously, I've had my share of fun with the DGO (Winged Order), also from Nogardion, and by hurting Segred I could at least get some fun out of my day. Nowadays we have Helena, who is learning from Rakoth, Lyssa who is nearly as crazy as Frankie is, and Colin ("Blue-Black") who might return next Moots. The others probably won't.
I'm also the quartermaster for the Pathfinders, so I run the camp and do the dinner/breakfast/lunch thing. This is challenging on camp stoves, so I get my fun from there. Still, I don't understand why Drahkan gets so awfully pissed off when I tell him it's his turn to do the dishes since he hasn't helped with breakfast or lunch or dinner the night before. *Sigh*
I sometimes clash with Drahkan, which is one of the reasons I don't like calling him on the phone. He reminds me too much of my father.
The moments of play I can count on one hand. I've spent most of my Saturday searching for Ekitch, who's teaching me magic and has now made me "prentice". I'm supposed to learn how to hold onto more mana, and try and remember the names of the second level Earth magic spells.
I've dabbled a bit in internal mage's guild problems, but Frankie's just not smart enough to make a good contribution. (However, being stupid in a smart way is fun and can be quite an eye-opener to others. Too bad they don't usually want to sit and talk with me in the first place). I've helped Luka talk to a dwarf for a while and played with a scribbly thing.
High point of my weekend was the final battle on Sunday. I got to shoot people and I did some magic.
Also, we did a prayer to Luna on Saturday that was kind of fun. I made good tandoori sauce and bacon & eggs. There was whiskey.
And that about sums up my weekend.
For next year, I'm in doubt. I'll be busy getting the Anarquendor to Drachenfest and I need to cut back on the number of larps. This year had two spurts of three larps in a row and that proved to be a bit too intense. I'd also like to have some time left for a winter holiday with snowboarding, if possible.
This year I didn't have much fun at Aon and Vortex events, so these are probably the first to go, should there be more "bursts" of larps. And it'll give me more time for other important things, like housekeeping.
Well, I'm off to imitate a zombie. Catch you all later.
