I haven't slept so long in a while, but apparantly a long day of larping and diving into my soft warm bed at three am helps with sleeping late on Sunday morning. Once I was up and somewhat running (ouch, sore muscles abound!) I took off into re-arrangement mania.

Our apartment is really quite large, but not if you take into consideration we own a lot of stuff. We've been having trouble storing things away properly for a while, and piles propagate and dust bunnies breed in the recesses beneath cupboards. Nothing could prepare me for what I found yesterday though.
I'd had the plan for a while. When my monitor broke earlier this year and I was forced to use my laptop in the livingroom, I realised that it's a little more sociable to be using the computer in the same room as NoKey is using his. My desk and computer was still in 'the atelier', but I was intent on changing this.

There I was, yesterday after lunch, dragging stuff out of the way. The coffeetable was shoved towards the balcony doors and all the stuff that had been piled under the drawing table went into a big pile in front of the sofas. The cats fled as I stood spread-eagled and nearly shoved a huge mass of stuff between my legs towards the sofa. Two dead three-and-a-half-inch floppy discs, pieces of a stanley knife, pins, hard disks, pieces of fabric, leather, interfacing...

After I shoved the drawing table (an architect's drawing table!) out of the way and cleaned the carpet underneath, I started to clear out my desk in the atelier. After I removed my computer and cleared the surface, I cleaned it, and then proceeded to lift my desk to the living room. I needed to fiddle a bit with power cables, but in the end I connected my computer again, wove the cables through the cable drain of the desk, and booted up my PC again.

After that, I removed the top of the drawing table, and pushed the iron carcass to the atelier. NoKey helped me to hook up the top of the table again and added the official rulers. I made dinner (Tofu tandoori) and we ate, surrounded by dusty heaps of cables and scraps. After dinner, NoKey sorted through the junk I'd found under the drawing table and next to his desk and threw out some things and stored others. By the time it was time for bed we'd rearranged most of the house and the coffee table was back where it belonged! The atelier is now even more real than before, the large architect's table dominating the space. Upright, it takes up less space than my desk did and it'll be a great help when I start school.

In the living room I now have my desk, which is great. I sit to NoKey's left and my large desk will store some of his paperwork which used to just hang down from where it was wedged underneath his keyboard. There's still some sorting to do, but overall, I'm very happy with this tiny improvement.

Oh, I know the feeling. :D

Today we took our large cat tree from next to the TV and put it next to the huge bookcase so that the kitties can climb the bookcase. (making the house more 3D for the kitties) However, there was so much stuff on there that we first had to clear it away. It now looks very tidy again and Melisse has found a new favorite spot to sleep.

Re-arranging and cleaning isn't only physical, most of the time it also helps to mentally clear things.

Yay for you!
