On my first Friday off in weeks I decided to take a cycling trip. It'd been cloudy all morning, but since skin cancer is not to be trifled with, I whipped out the suntan lotion and hopped onto the recumbent shortly afterwards. I set my paddles towards the Rottemeren, a little to the north of here.
I used to cycle down by the Rotte to go to work, and I'd not seen the Koornmolengat in a while.

I packed my camera along with my good intentions and a bottle of water. And I paid attention to composition, determined to at least learn the craft by planning my pictures.

(All photos can be viewed in a larger size on Flickr, just click them to go there.)

Blossom's texture

Good intentions will only take you so far. Focusing on your object is quite an art, when bending over backwards trying to frame an elderberry blossom against the flaring sun that had peeked out from behind the clouds as I'd cycled over the first tall bridge.

The pictures of a windmill in full sun proved to be too far off for my camera, as at the time I was still hidden behind a large cloud's shadow. Too small a sensor in my cheap(er) Fujifilm? Or was it just my punishment for thinking "I can fix the colours at home if I have to." ?
I guess I'll never know.

Other pictures with elderberries worked out better. I love the Koornmolengat, with its bunnies, multitude of brambles and blackberries and the same elderberry shrubs we picked our harvest from last October.

And I guess I did pick up a trick or two from [livejournal.com profile] aroka's explanation about curves and colours. Even if I'm just using the Gimp and not Bibble. (Haven't had time to figure out the extra processor support (eese2?) it needs yet).

This one I took especially for [livejournal.com profile] nachtvisser:

Any carp here, you think?

On my way to the north I faced a wind and the fearsome speed bumps in the bike path, but after I'd reached it and turned around to go back the Bleiswijk side, the wind was in my back and I wizzed down the path, gaining a max velocity of no less than 35 kph. Helped by a winding and dipping bike path, and Mr. Wind in my back. Har.

Near Bleiswijk I paused atop another quite colourful bridge for a picture of the lovely Rottemeren.

And a last one for the road, wishing you all a happy weekend with lots of sun!

Die laatste foto zou inderdaad zo een ansichtkaart kunnen zijn ^_^
Ik vind de foto van de wolken met die ene tak ervoor ook erg mooi!

You bet ya there are carp there! Only thing is the underwatergrowth. It will most likely spoil all the angling fun. The Rottemeren in the picture afterwards smells like carp!

Die tweede doet me een beetje denken aan werk van Escher: http://www.innovations-report.com/bilder_neu/96591_escher_birds.jpg
