Photography meet
Jun. 12th, 2010 10:59 amYesterday I had to work, extra hours that'll probably might not be compensated by extra hours of free time. Afterwards I took the train to Sloterdijk and then the bus to Zaandam to get to
aroka.
I'd changed our appointment earlier this week so I would have the whole Saturday to myself, and it was a lot more economical to go to Zaandam straight from work instead of coming from home the next day. It saved me two hours of train travel, for which I am grateful.
Arrived at
aroka and Jo's place around six, and
woran arrived a bit later. We talked oh, all sorts of things, and then Jo served a lovely spinach dish that was extremely yummy! I'm not a fan of spinach, but this dish proved me wrong yet again.
After dinner we sat with a lovely cappuccino talking camera's and photography. Terms like iso and pixels and lenses flew around and Aroka stammered off a surprising list of figures while Jo played World of Warcraft in the background. I could hardly keep track of all the 1.8, 500, 3.4, 3.5 and five- or nine thousand, mostly because I hardly know what that means.
I also learned that I've been handling my iso wrong. Currently I use a simple digital camera that looks more impressive than the pictures it makes. If I had a lot of sun I used the maximum iso setting, low light using a lower iso setting (whenever I don't just Auto the damn setting) and I learned that you actually should do it the other way around. It was also enlightening to learn that nowadays you can have an iso setting of over 3000 if you want, in newer camera's.
But then, I'm taking a step up in the world when it comes to photography. So I've got a lot to learn but I'd like to learn it. Hah. We'll probably need to go shopping for the new camera together, but I found the Nikon, which Aroka pushed into my grubby hands before Woran could offer her Canon, a lot more intuivitive. That doesn't say anything, ofcourse. We'll see!
