Sleeping with the window open has its perks. While slowly waking up this morning I heard a small bird outside singing me a serenade. I thought it was a Great Tit (parus major) but my mind must have been foggy, because I remember their song to be differently. It wasn't a blackbird (turdus merula) either.
I even heard a pigeon greet the sparse sunlight.

I remember my summer vacations in Kolderveen quite vividly. I spent one or two weeks every summer there, with my nephews and nieces. Farms strung out along a cobbled road flanked by oak trees. Pigeons woke me up there too, and somehow you could hear it was sitting in an oak. The sound is quite different here in the city, but it brings happy memories.

Just when I was counting my blessings for hearing birdsong while waking up, instead of our neighbours fighting, the woman next door started building up steam by launching a string of Portuguese I am very happy to not understand at her husband. That's as good as any a reason to get up.
Oh, the throws of marriage...

It is nice to wake up with the sound of birds singing.

The only birds I hear when I wake up are those from my Phillips Wake-up-light-alarmclock.
But those sound like being sucked into a airplainmotor (I have trouble waking up and I am afraid my wekker has to endure my morningmoods just too much). Though the lamp/wekker/natural annoying you awake system is realy good but it can not replace the real thing.
