Meet in the street
Mar. 19th, 2010 09:37 amYesterday evening when I got home (Deli dropped me off) I realised my bike was still at the station. I turned around to go get it. During my walk there, I met a man in the street. He was walking with his overweight rough-haired jack russell terrier, wearing the beige raincoat he always wore when I met him before. I wished him a "good afternoon" but then he said something.
I plucked my earphones out of my ears and talked with him for a moment. He's a man in his seventies, and always walks this particular round with his doggie.
"Well, I never see you in the mornings anymore." he said.
"That's right." I smiled. Who would think anyone would remember who he meets in the street in a city? "I have been carpooling with a colleague. But today I left my bike at the station."
"Ah..." he sighed. "Because you always said good morning when we passed you in the street."
"I know!" I smiled. "But after april first, I won't be going to the train station at all. I'll be on the couch, as they call it."
"What couch?" he asked, puzzled.
"The couch at home. I work in IT, but now they don't have any more work for me."
The man shook his head and said goodbye. I have no doubt he doesn't understand the way I get sent out to assignments. But I thought it was very sweet that he remembered me and that he actually asked me why we didn't run into eachother anymore each morning. Sometimes even city life surprises you.
Well, today will be a busy day. I have to vacuum, pick up groceries and some facial cream. At two, Keffie will be dropping in for some maille-ing, and we'll cut the required veggies for lasagna a la NoKey. Leona will come by too and we've got D&D tonight.
Tomorrow is not so busy so I'll be sewing a lot, but Sunday there's the Maerquin special and that will be very busy... I've read the plot and they've given me so many roles... I wonder why NoKey isn't coming along to the special, I thought he would be.
So fun weekend coming up!
