One day, when I've grown up and we buy a real house with real curtains they will be velvet.
Because even after ripping apart the most hideously discoloured, puked-upon, snotty red dust-ridden mothballs of velvet curtains, you can still see that I can make something beautiful out of them.

And I just can't help but remember [livejournal.com profile] anemoona's plight of having red velvet curtains three houses in a row and having to buy new ones each times, because her windows just keep getting bigger.

It's also very sad to realise I still have lovely deep red cotton velvet (of €15,- per meter) on a roll here, and that it would be so much better to use that, but they can't afford it. It's just a monster costume and they have these curtains and that'll do for this event.

Considering the amount of fluff generated, I can't make up my mind whether wool or velvet is worse for the machines. I'm guessing velvet, since it leaves more mess lying around than the concrete revamping of our back yard does.
I really need to run the vacuum cleaner through here...

First half of the curtains has been washed now. After I've created the costume I'll probably end up washing it again with a package of Dylon Rosewood, to get that lucious colour back.
Work, work, work.

I have only two pieces of curtain left! One for my own (you never know when I can use it) and one to give away. So if anyone wants it, please say so (pretty please?).

Maybe you can donate it to Charm as a tablecloth? :P

Velvet curtains are great! In fact, I am currently re-using some of Anemoona's curtains! And yes, I had fluff all over the floor. And all over the sewing machine. And all over me. And therefore, now all over the house as well :-S

... and you will keep finding red fluff in every nook and cranny for the upcoming two weeks :)

Sun damaged areas can take up less dye and wear again more quickly sometimes. I hope that won't happen for you.

A good reason to chalk the pattern pieces on the back and be very, very careful what parts I use. And not to spend eight euro on dye.

We've got chair covers and curtains that did this, so I thought I'd mention it. Good luck on the cutting/sewing.
