At 16.30 NoKey mom came to pick us up and we drove with her to Barendrecht. Apparantly they'd switched their internet subscription around and needed NoKey to change their DSL modemrouterthingy. So while I was keeping myself busy with my newest project -- more on that tomorrow -- NoKey figured out how the phone lines went, where the DSL lines went and what to change so they'd have wireless internet.

After all that and some lovely coffee and a very good juice made from oranges, lemons and grapefruits, we went out to eat at Banzai. It's a new restaurant in the all-you-can-eat sushi formula, just two streets away from their house. After just having had sushi at SushiQube last Thursday I was a bit sceptical. Hardly anything could be so nommy as that, right? Well, I was pleasantly surprised!

Banzai, Havenhoofd 2, Barendrecht.
Atmosphere: 8,5
Food: 8,5
Service: 6

Though there was a little less choice on the menu, the food was very good. The sushi was a little warmer than I'm used to (slightly warm) but very tasty. We couldn't help but compare this Banzai restaurant to SushiQube... and it really did rather well. The mushroom yaki was better at Banzai, but the zuccini was better at SushiQube. There was no gyoza on the menu at Banzai, nor were there edamame (for your non-greasy veggie kick!) and the gyu niku tasted like pork (!!!). On the other hand, I really enjoyed my final dish, the tori teri yaki, which was covered in sliced garlic.

Because of the more extensive menu at SushiQube, in the end SushiQube wins for me. Also, the waiters at Banzai were still very green and confused, so the service can definitely do with some improving.

During the first round of sushi, nigirizushi, my mother in law took her tomago from the plate, and something fell off. She thought it was just some rice, so she picked it up with her chopsticks and ate it. Imagine our sympathetic surprise when it turned out to be the blob of wasabi! It all happened so fast... but luckily she could sip her water and the wasabi soon stopped burning her mouth. I tried some of the wasabi in a next round, and it was very intensely hot for a few seconds, but soon stopped burning. Lucky for her, she wasn't aversely affected for the rest of the evening, and continued munching the lovely food even after NoKey had stopped eating.

After dinner -- when the waiters finally figured out we wanted to pay so we could go home -- we returned to their home and had some more green tea and a good conversation about... oh everything. Tessa seemed really interested in the DISC principles, and it's funny how we all get along in our opinions, and conversations with my inlaws are always a joy and hardly ever a chore.

A great evening was had, I dare say, all around!
