My morning started with the news that Michael Jackson has passed away. I once visited a concert in the Amsterdam ArenA (still very new back then, and I was fourteen or fifteen or some such), but I've always loved his older work. When I was just hitting puberty, he was really hitting the charts with Thriller and Bad. I joked that I would marry him one day. *grin*

I bought a newspaper at the train station in Utrecht, but they didn't reveal much more than what I heard on the radio. The Volkskrant (quality paper, that) was not as crass as the Telegraaf which headlined "Michael Jackson dead!". But all newspapers just stated that the King of Pop had died of a heart attack and highlighted MJ's career.
Of course, the singer died at half past midnight (CET), so most papers were already on their way to the printing press by that time and there wasn't much known at that time. It probably was a busy night for the journalists and editors.

While we were shopping in Nijmegen today, I heard radio's playing Michael Jackson songs, recognising at least Human Nature and an early, possibly Jackson Five song.

Whatever he was, he was a good entertainer. And I always knew I would probably outlive some celebrities (Sean Connery springs to mind), but I'd hoped that they would last a little longer. They just don't make them like they used to.

So here's my favorite Michael Jackson song, thanks to YouTube.

This is my favourite video of Michael Jackson. It just combines so many things I love, a long clip that resembles a small adventure movie, early 20th centry fashion, well-coordinated dance-routines and music with a heavy beat.

I think Michael is just as big a legend as Elvis once was.
