My newest hobby.
Mar. 27th, 2009 05:11 pmWe've always said I need a new hobby like I need a hole in the head. But yes, I did finally pick up this new hobby. I had seen it coming on for a while, and it was easily available. I started chainmailing. (Yes, I'm aware there's probably a different term for it, but I like this one just fine).
It's a little more ambidextrous than I am used to. Knitting is mostly armpit cadence with some minor wrist-adjustments. Sewing is usually just the right arm and shoulder. Chainmailing can get you lift your elbows over your head in an attempt to get that one ring in your left plier to slide over that one ring that is dangling from the ring in your right plier. Overall, I'm getting better pretty fast, but then I'm starting slow with an easy flower weave:

The reason I started chainmailing is because I want scales. And today, as I was cycling home from
steelweaver and
twilightbanana's place* I realised how the costume for my new character is slowly coming together in my head.
You see, I would really like a chainmail, European-four-in-one neckguard, but I realised that it won't work with the background and the rest of the costume. For one, the hijab will cover most of it up. So, why not add chainmail shoulder pauldrons with scales to the leather armour?
My mind snerked acquiescence at that point. So that's a go.
I really need to get down to sketching, but currently I'm trying to get the hang of these pliers andn once I'm done with those I'm sure my fingers will be too sore to even hold a pencil properly.
-----
*) who really are my pushers when it comes to chainmail, I can tell. "Just try these new rings;" they will go; "they're really a lovely shade of puke green, and will irredescate with your eyes." You know how it will go**!
**) And I'll bet you're secretly jealous too. *grin*
