The heartbeat of the city
Mar. 9th, 2009 11:01 amAfter some hassle with my traintickets early this morning (I hate Mondays) I finally exited the trainstation Den Haag Centraal. The heartbeat of the city quickened to the excited clicking of heels on the pavement. High glass and steel towers rose in front of me, a homeless person was playing an electric guitar, and people went about their business, walking to work.
The 17th floor of this Ministry provides an excellent view of the city. I can see the trains moving into the station, providing great distraction (I always loved Transport Tycoon!) and the interesting architecture of the city is just far enough away that I can enjoy it.
I can even see the building of my previous assignment quite clearly from here.
On the other side of this tower I can see Het Plein, the Mauritshuis and even, I think, the Dutch Parliament Het Binnenhof. Governing capital of the Netherlands, and I work in its center.
Seven days of this, and then it's back to Rotterdam for me.
