Semi-paper LJ: sleepless on the stairs
May. 25th, 2002 07:15 pmUck. I was so stressed and so not looking forward to the performance. But it went okay, I guess.
The stage was quite a shock. There was drums being placed above the stairs and there was hardly any room for play. So we switched it around: the audience on the stairs, we on the floor beneath it. Which went well. The torches were nice and warm and so was the audience. [oh well, they clapped]
Before we performed, there were a few practice rounds, and some of my theatre group insisted on praying. I really felt weird, being probably the only wiccan at a christian biblical festival, just for the performance. Carien hugged me and said “You really are one of us” and that was sweet, even though I was just looking at a beautiful moon amidst a starry sky.
That reminds me, full moon soon.
After the performance, Judith, Christina, Roseanne and I grabbed our sleepingbags and a lot of nuts (there was a whole supermarket’s worth of food for the artists and performers, but hey, it was free!) and drink and we sat on the stairs of the “Plaza of Pilatus” (yeah, it IS the biblical outdoor museum in Nijmegen). The crew set up the screen and we watched Gladiator. I actually had expected Jesus Christ Superstar, but this was okay as well. Lots of violence. There were a lot of people sighing in disbelief when there was another person brutally slaughtered. Ofcourse, I was the only one who laughed.
It was way cold and even though they were annoying and from Urk, I let some guys lean into my sleepingbag just for the fact that they were warm and I was cold. They left halfway through the movie. *shiver shiver*
When the sun rose from the cold night, the movie became hardly visible and there was breakfast. I did get to hear the end, but I didn’t see it. We took a bus to the station and I got to bed at half past seven.
