The Summoning XIII
Jul. 17th, 2008 11:49 amThis would be the first event that NoKey and I would portray Dandin and Aliph, loyal guards of Lord Inukai Mori'gil (played by
drahkan).
The character concept arose during the Christmas dinner we shared with J.(
anna_xanaphia) and Drahkan, when Drahkan told us many stories of how wonderful his character was and how much fun he had with it.
He offered us a role as his guards / advisors.
Enthusiastic with his stories and with the role, I designed an outfit, which we promptly forgot about until May. With all the sewing I had to do for the Anarquendor, I really didn't have time to sew our costumes for the Moots. We ended up skipping the Moots and opting for the Summoning instead.
We arrived on Friday and took our time preparing to go IC. I bought a new sword at the UK salesmen Eldritch, a lovely bastard sword with red leather and balanced by copper tubing. The thing is very light to wield and was only € 100,- (GBP 60.-), and Thijs (who once played the infraggable Argh on Shiverz) said it was about the only sword he liked. There were nice swords in the shop, but many were expensive and this one was the nicest in shape and weight.
I was nigh forced to buy a new sword, because my elven shortswords only have green scabbards and do not match the oufit, and can't go into regular scabbards. I tried making a scabbard and failed miserably, so this was the last option left to me.

Friday saw some crisis or other when the Navigator of Leviathan was attacked by a factionmember of Golem. This was a retribution to some crime committed by Leviathan against Golem. A lengthy debate followed, and Dandin and I kept unwanted visitors (anyone but GMs) outside the tent. Andreas and the Wolf clan were allowed free passage though, as were the Navigators, Lord Marshall Brand, Maximus, the Fighter's Guild secretary, and another high-ranking person whose name I can not recall at this time. Learning their faces and who is allowed in at all times was the first order of business, and mastered quickly. It's hard to see the porto-earplugs of CS and FS in the dark though. *grin*
We were introduced to some people, and completely ignored to others. Whenever a person would ask Lord Mori'gil to speak to him in private, our Lord would inevitably answer "I am alone.". It's good to be a guard. It's very hard to follow the conversations anyway, as we're constantly on the lookout and need to focus on our surroundings, listening with only half an ear if our Lord needs us.
Lord Marshall Brand was bound to the Vortex, sworn to protect it and follow the laws. This was an impressive ritual where all the navigators were bound to Lord Marshall Brand in turn and they had to work together so Lord Marshall Brand would not be sucked into the Void, which posessed Keelin the high Ritualist.
Cue us pacing the outside of the circle, as we could not enter it, while our Lord was inside.
Another thing that stands out is that we were introduced to Nashino, second of the Fighter's Guild.
"These are my personal guard," Lord Mori'gil spat at Nashino, "which you were supposed to arrange for me. Because of your failure to do so, I took matters into my own hands."
Nashino, a proud warrior himself, protested that he was still working on it, and was not pleased with Lord Mori'gil's decision to arrange for the personal guard himself. Nashino is one of the people I do not trust implicitly, because I can not gauge his desire to earn a promotion. So far he has not moved against my Lord, but he is skirting the line when it comes to disobeying orders.
Oh, wait. I do not trust anyone implicitly. Hahahahaaa!

Saturdaynight Drahkan was needed at a performance of his band, so NoKey and I had the night off. The long hours of standing and running after our Lord take their toll and I was glad we could use the time to go out for dinner (Pizza in the town Ommen), share a shower, and shoot some bow (re: the picture I posted yesterday).
There was a training of the Fighter's Guild too. We did not participate, but I did take the time to share some water and whisper some comments into the ear of our Lord. The sun was hot and people were sweating like pigs. I was impressed with the performance of the Wolf clan, who had a solid thing going with their shields. With some others I could see what fighting style they had been trained in.
Some new trainees of the Fightersguild were tested in the Arena, and among this all some armies charged through the portal to attack us. They accused us of Meddling, and if we didn't stop meddling in the affairs of other worlds, we would be attacked.
Meanwhile, Lord Mori'gils swords - which could shoot Holy Bolts - had been depleted and needed to be re-energized. Lord Mori'gil asked Fosko of Light to help - and it took the damn man nearly three days. Every time we'd try to recharge the swords, something came up, someone was inavailable, and once when everything seemed to go right, it didn't work because the energy wasn't channeled the right way. *sigh* In this last case, Lord Mori'gil was rather badly hurt and I was glad to see that he was healed before all others.

In the end it was Monday before this was fixed, during the final battle, Lord Mori'gil himself called upon the Child of Light, and the Child answered him. Something none of the amateurs at Faction Light could achieve, I might add. The swords were charged, and as soon as he knew it was done, Lord Mori'gil ran out of the encampment, into the battle, charging into the heart of the fray. At some point Heathcliff, one of the VIPs of the Vortex (apparantly) was wounded and Lord Mori'gil dragged him bodily out of the fray, closely followed by us.

There was a lot more going on, rituals, intrigue and battle, but though Lord Mori'gil is a busy man, we protected him well enough. I really loved the endbattle, where I had taken over Lord Mori'gil's spear and was thwacking monsters with it to keep his flanks free.
It was a good event, although my costume needs some adaptations. Good costumes grow and accumulate, after all.
