I need a new 'look'
Jul. 9th, 2008 03:34 pmAlright crazy coiffeurs, I pose a conundrum to you. This weekend I will be playing a warrior, and I need an imposing look to go with it. I'm thinking hairstyle, I'm thinking ink or tattoo, I'm thinking wild make-up. I will be wearing a black knee-length coat that is mostly sleeveless, so this is not limited to facial markings.
Help style me!

Date: 2008-07-09 04:47 pm (UTC)A high set ponytail interlaced with leather thonging may look cool, like a leather version of dreadlocks in with your own hair.
Then, the old 'instant flame burst' trick with two cans of face paint. Firstly, with your eyes closed, but stretched as wide and flat as possible, get a chum to spray over your eyes in a bright colour of your choice, yellow or red look cool. Let it dry. Then scrunch your eyes up very tight, as tight as you can and then get your chum to spray over your eyes again in black paint, making sure they have covered the edges of the previous paint. Then, when you open your eyes you have a starburst effect where the scrunching stopped the black getting through. You could spray red over yellow even. Wild looking, doesn't need a mirror and takes two minutes to do.
Armbands, yeah, go for it. Metal if you have them. They would look cool. Failing that do a google search on 'Tattoo paper' and see if there is a Netherland source. This is paper you put through your inkjet and makes a temporary tattoo. Failing that, tattoo sleeves may be available.
Use fabric or leather scraps to wrap around your hands like a boxer does bandages. Cheaper than gauntlets but no armour benefits (boo).
Get some decorative studs from the habedashery store and instead of gluing them on fabric, use spirit gum (or other strong facial fixative) and with luck (depending on your skin) they could last long enough to pass for piercings on the face.

Date: 2008-07-09 04:58 pm (UTC)I didn't get much further than twisting locks of hair backwards and tying them down, like young Arthur in Mists of Avalon (http://www.starman-imaging.com/apr04/mistsavaln713qa.jpg), only more strands as I have a lot of hair. This will keep the hair out of my face too. I might tie them down with leather, but I always find these don't stay put. I can't just stop and retie them, that's the nature of the role I will play. A topknot is nice, but I fear the headache it might cause.
I still have some grey and black suede bracers. I'm not sure if
We have black tattoo ink for theatre purposes, it's ideal because water doesn't rinse it off or make it run, though friction will rub it off.
Boxer's bandages: great idea! I'll have to see how it works with fighting and whether it slips looser during the day, but it will be worth a try.
And I'll be wearing this (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3263/2650724710_b7b168e94e_o.jpg) on my shoulders. *grin*

Date: 2008-07-09 08:03 pm (UTC)You could go for a kind of mask look for the face, with grey, white or black starting in an abrupt straight line just under the eyes and maybe a couple of streaks bleeding over into the hair. And eyeliner, pref in a way that makes you look like you're glaring alll the time. You could also go for the full japanese stage 'demon' make up kind of thing.
Tattoo wise, knots or lines of dots usually work or you could go for dragons? Or tattoo little tally marks on the inside of your arm and enact putting on new stripes as as the kills stack up...

I don't think my character would wear a torque, as she still answers to a lord.
