Live Action Role Playing
May. 20th, 2002 07:48 pmThis weekend was LARP weekend. Fridaymorning I packed my bags, and Jan and I hasted ourselves to the train station. We drove off to Vlaardingen (near Rotterdam) with Sander, to do a Live Action Role Play weekend.
When we arrived, we helped Sascha, one of the organising people, to build up the site. There were tents to be put up, decorations to be hung, costumes to be laid out, plots to be read. Well, it was hard and long work. But by nightfall, when the players and the other NPC’s (non-playable characters) had arrived, everything looked smashing.
That night, the rules were explained. Both Sander and Jan already had played before, in the Moonblade II Larp, but I was a fresh newbie. There were in total about 30 people, including the 8 main characters. They make the ‘party’, a group of people in a quest for….something. The rest is NPC, a.k.a. monster, orc, villager, stone column, drow, etc etc etc. The people in the plot who aren’t always around. Multiple rolls. Much fun.
After the rules were explained, the players were introduced into the Larp (I’ll skip the “it’s this and this dimension and this is what happened to you” as well as the getting into costume parts) and all of the NPC'’ went in the inn: The House of Pleasure and Pain, now there’s a place we all know, eh? I tended the bar, because the character I played that night, Lis, needed to earn money.
The other NPC’s forfilled other roles, there were some whores (m/f) trying to sell themselves to the players. I actually flirted with all of them. *Giggle*. And yes, that included the female whores. There was an innkeeper (one of the orginasation persons), a gambling area, some monsters, a storyteller, a shaman who read the cards for me and many, many more. Everyone just played their character and had fun.
Saturday, the story continued. After breakfast and coffee, the players went on their quest and I helped decorate a partytent to make it the Temple of Lust, in which I was a priestress. Inside the village scene I was an apprentice of a woodcarver. I was part of an orc ambush somewhere in the park. And that night I played the guitar with Henning, by the campfire.
Sunday the roleplaying continued. I played a demon who thought everything everybody had was pretty, and trying to buy all of the stuff. And even later I was one of the stone columns protecting the Nilith.
Sundaynight the final scenes were played. First I dressed up as an undead to fight the Drows away from the Mindflayer we captured. I was wearing an impossible mask, with white fishnet in the eyes, in the dark. Guess what I saw? Nothing! Luckily, everything went according to plan, meaning the Drow teleported away, the Undead were killed by the players and the Mindflayer initiated a ritual with the Drow elsewhere to open the portal to another dimension, the goal of the players. Who were then attacked in the Final Battle, in which I was a minion, 5 hitpoints per location (meaning, if you get hit 5 times on the arm, you lose the arm). Getting slain by Robert (“Aaaaaah! That was my leg. You bastard!” *hop hop* on one leg, trying to hit Robert before getting hit in the chest a number of times), then hiding in the shadows as Lis, and jumping through the portal before the players.
I say it was quite a succesful weekend. I got huggies from Eline, Henning, Selma and Robert, and I traveled home with Sander. Then I experienced the true bliss of having a shower and doing my nails. *Sigh* That feels so good….
