Well, that was that.

We left late, far too late, driving away from home at half past four. Stuck in traffic five times at least, trying very hard to not get frustrated and getting to Veldhoven safe and sound. Arrived with a headache. ChibiYali from spelleiding coming outside to greet me overenthusiastically was not much appreciated.

I don't know why this LF was called 'The Rise of Legends', really. The title suggested epic battles, new heroes, and awesomeness.

Fridaynight we were asked to accompany Luxo to the last green place in the forest. We were commanded to find this mythical place by the dryad on the last Legendfalls, and though we tried then, the GM's used the plothammer and said 'there was no one such place, but many'. Surprise surprise, it did exist, and Luxo alone knew where it was. Patchouli, Ialis, Adriel, Luxo, Moonchild, Dren, and Lanelle went there and once there we amired the view. Finally, it was settled and we would start a ritual to find out why the forest was dying.
Adriel started the ritual, calling both Silnathar and Dubheassa, God of Life and Goddess of Death. They said that there was not an inbalance between them. We finally found out that the imbalance was between Miras, God of Hate, and Aina, Goddess of Love. Adriel summoned Aina and much more talking ensued.
Meanwhile, my toes were freezing off, my back hurt, and I was hungry. NoKey (who plays Adriel, Lanelle's brother) had already asked once whether everyone was still doing okay, but this did not shorten the ritual in the slightest. When he continued into yet another discussion with yet another God, I was through and just left. Yes, closed circle and all, but my OC discomfort did outweigh my IC reasons. I told them to update me in the morning and went to bed. When NoKey cuddled up to me well over an hour later (I really don't know at what time he came to bed) I was still cold.

Saturdaymorning I was awoken at half past ten by Dennis of the GM's who said that lunchtime was approaching and that breakfast would be cleared away soon. We had a spot of breakfast, were lucky enough to have an egg with some bacon left, and dressed for a new day with new chances.
Nothing much was happening in the village and I joined Dren on the village green, who was treating his bowstring with some beeswax. I followed suit and we shared a pleasurable 15 minutes in the sunshine. Nairo and Tamarr were still on the elvenworld and what was worse was that Hagor and the Lionhearts were nowhere to be seen.

It was a very quiet day, and though there was a lot of talk about Gods and magic, Lanelle has no truck with these kinds of things and can not really be bothered. Up until the point that John Walker came to summon us because the dark dryad had been seen nearby. When we arrived at a trot it was obvious something was very wrong. A lot of the villagers were covered by dead branches, and weird-looking creatures were scratching their clothes and limbs where they stuck out of the mess.

Adriel went over to talk to the dark dryad, the sister of our 'own' dryad, and after a while I noticed that both sisters were present in the clearing beneath the trees. I walked over to 'our' dryad, who nodded with a smile. She dispelled the entangle her sister had cast over the villagers. Then the dark dryad told her creatures to attack us. I managed to loose two arrows at a rat-like creature before being struck down myself. Adriel came to my aid to heal me, but just as he focused his magic, the dryad herself healed me completely and Adriel helped me up. I handed my bow to Adrienne, who happened to be nearby and drew both swords, jumping in between our dryad and a boar-like creature that was ready to attack us.

When the creatures were dead, the dark dryad was raging at her sister. Luxo was smart enough to find a solution. "Give her your love!" he shouted, and hugged the dark dryad, who sputtered and shouted for us to let her go. She cast a magic blastwave to strike us away, but we would not give up and hugged her again until she relented. She was no longer Miras' creature and the balance between love and hate in her was restored.
The two sisters held hands and walked into the forest, closely followed by me. I took my eyes off them for only a moment and they disappeared.

When everyone was back in the village, something else happened. A tree burst into flames and an elf with burning eyes jumped out of it. I ran inside to get some water, but one of the Igors, Spid, tried to stop me from extinguishing the flames. I upended the bucket mostly into his face for that, and in turn he attacked me. Arisdor took a few moments to bind my wound with some herbs, and once the flames were doused Adriel helped me inside, where I sat with Rua'ana and Malmah. They were talking with another elf, a ritualist (whose name I've promptly forgotten) the Silent. He did not speak, but wrote down in his book. I read his sentences aloud, feeling involved in the discussion. Even when Adrienne and John Walker joined us, I kept 'talking' for him and forgot my wounded leg.
By the time it was time for dinner, the herbs had done their work and hardly any pain remained. Dinner was boerenkool with sausage.

The original plan was to have a ritual for the Gods. The pantheon holds nine Gods, four with their couterparts (love-hate, light-dark, life-death, lies-truth) and a fifth (knowlegde and amusement) without. Another entity was supposedly trapped in the portal, which had closed. There is now no going back to the elvenworld. John Walker's idea was to proclaim a high priest of each pair of gods, a champion.
The reasoning was such: Moronc, an entity that was trapped since ages past, possibly inside the portal, had been bound. The seal was weakening. The portal was acting strange. And there were five statues in front of the portal. So now five new champions or high priests would have to be chosen to represent each of the god-pairs.

Adriel had said I would be a good choice for the champion of Silnathar and Dubheassa. He went on some quest or other, leaving me to mull over this idea. the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a bad idea. Lanelle has nothing with the Gods, magic and rituals. She knows the Gods exist, Aina has talked through her and touched her, and she very much believes in Silnathar and Dubheassa. But she is a ranger above all else and would not do very well as a high priest.

I was experiencing a new low in larping and was very blah. With many of my in character interactions gone, I could not bring myself to find new things to do. I don't like Dren very much (IC and OC) and I was tired of not having anything to do. The one bit of plot I enjoyed was the plot with the dryad, and finding myself sitting in the tavern making myself useful for the Silent Ritualist whose name I keep forgetting, even though it was a lot of talk about the gods.
When NoKey came back, I told him of my dilemma, and I subsequently went to bed. It was nearing eleven o'clock.

Sunday started off well enough. I was the first player awake and stumbled into the hallway with a towel and clean clothes for a shower and smelled the morning coffee. The shower was good, the coffee nice (my first cup of non-decaf in a while, and causing my fingers to shake). The players were lugged out of bed soon after because the event would end at one.
The first encounter was with a bunch of Eveleen (Goddess of Light) followers, who said that anyone not following Eveleen would have to die. This was over rather quickly, and then NoKey and I traipsed into the forest to find our dryad. We only found her sister, the dark dryad. She had relinquished her destructive grip on the forest and was content. Adriel asked about why she blamed her sister for the loss of her loved one, and she told the story about how a man came to her one day and told her so. When she was done, Adriel thanked her, but I had one last question.
Adriel, Nairo and Lanelle are the three guardians of the dryad, but if the dark dryad has no guardians, there is still an imbalance. The dark dryand comforted me by saying that they would return to her soon, and that the balance would remain.

Back in the village, melancholy struck again. A lot of people were milling about the temple where Malmah, Rua'ana and the Silent had done something to Magic. So, still no plot for me, and I became even more depressed with the entire situation. When the endbash came with banshees and wraiths, Dren and I went into the forest (an elf trying to fight a banshee...good luck with that! Sensitive ears anyone?).
Adrienne had left as well, Hagor had not been seen for a while, not even by his vampire friends, we can't go back to the elvenworld, and Lanelle, just like me, did not enjoy this Legendfalls at all.

Curiously enough, the English word for 'boerenkool' is: Curly Kale. *continues reading now*.

*Finished reading* Too bad you didn't enjoy it. Recognizable though, I didn't enjoy LF 4 all that much, one of the reasons we weren't there this time. But I consider rejoining the monster-crew now. Well, we'll see. Regards to NoKey.

With my lot you would have gone through that by mid day Saturday and had three more fights, and much drinking until the small hours... It seemed a very quiet event from your description. You do need interaction, magic and mystery, but you also need a fair amount of danger and daring do to stir the blood, which from your description seemed sadly lacking.

I know, and that's just it - with only 29 players (out of an expeected 56) and 17 (out of 25) monsters, the event was not very well-attended. A lot of the guys I usually play with didn't come. Same for the people I still had to teach a lesson or two. And when all you've got around you is people you don't really like, the tendency to make your own play lessens.

I've really cut my own throat there - I said to the GM's before multiple times that I don't really need any plot. And that's true too! I'll be very happy off on my own, roaming the woods with my ranger buddies. But this time, none of my ranger buddies made it except Dren, and he's not a buddy.

To give the organisers some credit: there probably was more plot than I described here. I just didn't feel like picking it up or it wasn't something Lanelle would bother herself with. I don't play chess, for example, so the whole huge chessboard-in-the-inn-plot went right by me. And the undead-snake-plot was solved in five minutes, with some poison for me to use on my unsuspecting victims in the bargain.

I wrote about previous Legendfalls too:
