Legendfalls II: Legends Awakening
Mar. 15th, 2006 05:05 pmIt had been a tough choice - to go or not to go. NoKey had said he wouldn't go after seeing the pictures of mr. V (I believe his nickname for the guy is) on the site, and after a long inner debate I decided to go anyway. And a few days before the event, right after my last post, I finally really felt like going.
JW came over to pick me up, after I called him around 14.00 that I was done packing. We ate a quick snack at the Mac, if only because the diet would be going to hell on any larp anyway. I didn't even finish my menu, I just didn't want to eat it anymore, my stomach was sufficiently filled, and it really isn't that tasty. The burgers taste of smoke and the rest just tastes bland. The only thing that really has some taste is the sauce. Well, yay.
Give me some fresh tzaziki any day, by the way.
JW then helped me carry my arsenal downstairs. Two daggers (tanto), two throwing daggers, and of course my faithful Flux. Off we went to pick up Keffie, and then onwards to Oosterhout, to Legendfalls!
We found a small room with two bunk beds, and I immediately claimed one of the top ones. Keffie lay in the bed under me, and JW took the other bed, below, leaving the top of that bed for our luggage.
Enter Tamarr (JW) and Lanelle (moi) Strongwind. Brother and sister, he an apprentice mage, she a ranger.
We were escorted to the time-in location: just outside the portal on the elven homeworld. There, we ran into Ilhacamina, Elf of the Portal Guard. He allowed us to pass through though. I looked at Tamarr, who had taken charge of the elves for that time, and he nodded. I grabbed my sword and jumped through the portal.
The humans on the other side were a bit startled though. They had just placed a necklace with an amulet on a human that was until before they hung the amulet on him, a statue, and were talking to him. They had not expected something to jump out of the portal, least of all elves, with weapons ready and faces covered. (I've read too much Jordan).
Tamarr explained the situation, but Humans and Elves do not mix too well. Humans have last seen elves 1500 years ago, and only know them from the stories, that they steal your children. Elves have not seen humans in 1500 years either, but they kept the portal guard in place, and there are probably some elves still alive who have seen humans. Elves are immortal, after all.
After a long and tedious explanation, we were finally allowed to go to the village, to get warm again. We were offered rooms in the inn.
Since there were quite a few young players that are quite inexperienced, I decided to show my motherly side, take them under my wing, and go out scouting with them. They all play elves, and they themselves already had the intention to go out into the woods themselves, so I asked if I could join them.
When we arrived there though, we found three or four humans, dead or dying. One was still moving, he didn't allow us to get closer and kept swinging his two swords at us. I couldn't disarm him, and the other ranger shot him. Dead.
Another round-ear was still alive, though, and I gave him some water. I could just see the looks on the faces of the people in the village. Elf party returns from the woods. Later that night, a few corpses are found. Everyone points at elves, see, they did it. Elves are fucked.
I'm starting to really get into the vampire way of things, apparantly. So I ordered two elves to run to the village, get a healer, and get back here without telling him or her what had happened or who we found.
Long story short, we carried the somewhat-healed round-ear back to the village and arranged for a round-ear to take care of him. We have a witness.
I drank a glass of young mead withthe wannabe-corpse Rennie, who is quite heavy if you have to carry him back, and Clementine his girl. Had fun. Went to bed.
Saturday
The thing didn't sit right with me, though. After all, there were still a few round-ear corpses lying around in the forest. Now Lanelle has no idea how round-ears treat their dead, so I spoke to Tamarr and got him to inquire after the post-mortem rites of round-ears. "Usually, they are buried until they are raised as undead", one of the round-ears said, which sounds like a really strange way to treat your dead to me. But then again, when have elves ever understood humans?
We got some humans to come along to bury the humans on the spot, bless the graves, whatever. It was a good excuse to rampage through the woods, and try to sneak around.
Next to some deer-dung, I found two pieces of parchment. (Fun, the way Dancer (Pascal) unceremoniously dunked them into my arms when we were back in the inn: "Here, you found this while you were scouting" "er...okay...")
So, right after the lunch (kaassoep!) we went out to see what was on the map. Nairo, the third elf scout, and quite a good one at that, had told us he recognized a part of it, so we followed the trail. We came upon a band of brigands though, and had to kill them in order to pass.
The fun bit was when three of them came after us - Tamarr and the other elf who was lying in hiding with us ran away. I was a bit closer to them, and covered the rear: I ran two or three steps, turned back to face them. The three of them came skittering around the corner, saw I was standing my ground...and stopped. Afraid to attack me.
I love to stand against fresh new impressionable NPC's. I look so butch, I scare three. *Hurhurhur*
Onwards, my brave comrades. We came upon a few roundears who had a disagreement, but we didn't interfere. Humans and their business are none of our business, after all. Then we came upon a woman chained to two trees. She was cursed and we needed to find a human to take over the curse for her. Sadly, Seriof (one of the humans that was most annoying) wasn't around. I tried to pick the lock with my cloak pin, but that didn't have any effect (it's fun to hear the SL say "just be glad you're not a mortal" when you do stupid stuff).
Meanwhile, there was an ambush up the road, and the few human rangers we found underway sprang their trap. The (inexperienced) NPC's came out and attacked us. Now, we might have had a problem if they had stayed in ambush, since a lot of the elves are alchemists, mages, or druids. Now they spread out. I ended up in melee with a young man, possibly 16, maybe even younger. With a mace. Oh deary, but I really had my eye on Mr. V, who played an archer and was far more dangerous.
The mere impossibility to keep looking at the two of them at the same time caused me to use my peripheral vision to eye both of them. It looks like you're looking down, at the ground, but from the corners of your eyes you can see about 180° around you. To my right, I saw the mace-boy, and to my left mr. V. Mace-boy was kind of impressed when I faced him the moment he made a move to strike me with the mace. When I saw mr. V draw his bow and get ready to shoot, however, I used inexperience against Mace-boy. I made a move as if to strike him, but turned around when he stepped back, ran to the treeline, jumped over some undergrowth, and dodged the woman-in-chains. This way, I circled around the archer in question, and could strike him from the back. I hit him on his chainmail, quite hard too, I hope, and he went down. He was the only brigand that day that even had money on him.
The last bit of map we encountered a hermit who posed us a riddle, and we solved that to get a chest. The note I found with the map pointed out that "two that were seperated once will be reunited" but that was a pretty vague description. Nevertheless, we daren't open the box except near the portal. So we walked to the portal, set up the scouts there, and opened the box. Nothing happened.
Lanelle was pretty good in her defeat though: leave the riddles to the mages, and get them home. She believes they'll figure it out some day.
When we walked back to the village, the round-ears walked towards us; exclaiming how we left all the time without telling them where we went, without leaving any sentries. Well, like we've been greeted very warmly. Hostile behaviour breeds hostile behaviour, and Lanelle just quickly got the woman who carried the box hidden under her cloak to the village.
After all, it was cold, and we were tired.
Dinner was Baskenvoer: spareribs, chicken, salmon-trout, with rice, potatoes, sprouts, beans, fresh fruit salad, melon, bread, potatoesalad, and some cheeses. Yum. The spareribs were too dry to my taste, so I went ballistic on the brie.
SL came to warn us that the temperature prediction that night would be -10° Celcius.
Keffie and I then proceeded to dress up warmly. I had noticed that he wasn't too bad for a round-ear, and that he actually spoke for an elf in her defense. So I decided to take him for a turn in the woods, see how he held up. I wore my backup costume over my regular costume, and tied my longsleeve over my face, and we went out.
It was a perfect night: nigh full moon, the sand paths glistening silvery in the night. In the sand, with each step you saw the crystals because the sand had frozen.
Keffie and I then visited the Old Archdruid, a lonely tree that was named so on Lands in Exile. It was very sad, but beautiful to see him again.
Then we went back to the village, and got in a fight with some demons. Sadly though, Keffie fell down very awkwardly and hurt his back. They had called an ambulance and moved him to the hospital to take pictures.
The night, after a fashion, progressed with the plot. The organisation was quite bummed about the incident (not that they could do anything about it), and they talked to the players, explaining what had happened and getting rid of any strange questions. At that moment, I was just very scared he had seriously injured his back, also because Keffie couldn't move, and he couldn't feel his left leg anymore. Later, that turned out it was just the cold.
The next bit of plot was a Victorian ball. They played the music from Faun, and I got abducted by Dancer into cha cha and samba. As soon as he noticed I could dance he just wanted to keep on exploring what he remembered and what I remembered. Probably also to get his and my mind off of things.
I drank a glass of old mead, and went to bed after P. Prince's show with blacklight and glass balls. He's a guy I had a crush on 8 years ago, for some strange reason or other. We went to the Czech Republic with school in...er...'99?
In the middle of the night, I was woken by Dennis of the orga, who told us the good news: Keffie was allright and dosed with morfine and would be coming back to the camphouse. Later still, I was woken because Keffie came to bed. The next morning I woke up because he tried to roll over and everything hurt, since the morfine had stopped working.
JW was already up and about and had breakfasted already, and suggested bringing Keffie home. Which was fine by me. We told everyone our characters had gone back through the portal, and packed up. Breakfast was yum (fresh warm rolls from the oven!) and soon after we were en-route back home.
Keffie had a lot to say about it all, and was cheerful as ever.
Next Legendfalls I hope to be able to drag NoKey along as our older brother Adriel. It was fun!

I do kick children though, so maybe....
