I actually wanted to write another post today about the plans of minister Van Aertsen, who proposed that children should be 'supported' from school to stay there until 18.30 or even 19.30, so the parents could work a bit longer.
Problem is that I can find hardly anything about it on the net. Newssites have dismissed it already and don't have any archives. Not even Rijnmond, my usual radio station, has anything to say on the matter, even though I heard it from them, last night on 'Met Wie?'

So I guess I'm not going to rant much about the plan.

But then again, yes, I do want to say this: [initiate double read speed for perfect visualization of my rant]

If we are to stick the kids in school and work 10 hours a day, or preferrably more, let's just sterilize everyone. To ensure the survival of the species, let's just make sure everyone with an IQ of 110 or more (and I'm going soft on you guys here) can donate either eggs or sperm. These will then be made test tube babies, who are bred and raised in the Test Tube facility. There they will receive a balanced diet and attention from Caregivers until the age of 12, at which time they will be old enough to go to work. No more parents, everyone can work very hard, and pay lots of taxes. There won't be enough time for people to become criminals, because if you don't work your share you will get your testicles stuffed in a blender. And at the age of 50 you will die of exhaustion anyway so we won't be needing our pensions. That's a great solution to everyone's problems!

[/rant] *pant pant*

So let me see. There's one party in the government, VVD, saying that kids should be at school longer so the parents can work longer.
There's another party in the government, CDA, saying that the loss of values is the cause of the degradation of our society.
But videogames are the blame of everything, right?
I mean, that most parents hardly have any time for their children any more is not bad for the children, I suppose.

don't even get me started about that.

ARGH!

but i do think people that have kids and stay at home to take care of their kids are somewhat considered idiots by this society. i wish they could get a sort of compensation. but that must be kinderbijslag huh? ;)

and it's not that weird that kids get fatter every year. they got tv and video games to take care of them while daddy is working on some office stuff at home. and since more and more people get devorced without ever considering their kids and they end up single-parenting and never have time for their kids because they work to pay alimentatie or the billls.

ARGHGHGH! [this rant also needs some speed reading]

When we got kids we knew the conceqentions. We promised we never ever would dump them anywere. And we didn't. There is always one of us with the kids. Couse their our kids! And we think: if you have kids you should take care of them too. And not stuff them into daycare. Did you know taking care of youre own kinds in no longer on any form you have to fill in on childforms? They ask all kind of places were you put them, but at home is not one of the possibilities! I was shocked. Teathers at school blame us for this. "were did they go to for daycare?" "home" "owww that's awfull? why didn't you put them in to a creche?" "there was no need for that we took care of them our selves" "tskkktsssk". Honestly!
The idea about the whole thing is: daycare before going to school, go to school, lunch at school in the overblijfklas, school again after school daycare...
Were in this is the time to spend with youre child? Why even bodder to have children? Only to make sure you're gens will survive you? Welcome to the: Who is that man/woman who puts me to bed? kinda situations... Yah for politics!

I value the time I spend with my kid. I think this time is important to my kid, and it is important for me. Victoria and I decided we wante dto have a child, and now we have one, so we want to spend time with it. For out own pleasure.
And as for the child's benefit: children learn important things at school, but children also learn important things at home. Different sorts of things, but equally important.

Of course having a child is not always fun. We have to work to make money, and that takes time, and sometimes combining everything in the right way is difficult. Lucky for us, Fabio has a very sweet grandmother (Victoria's mother) who loves to spend time with her grandchildren on a regular basis. And Fabio enjoys being with grandma very much. She spoils him a bit, but that's all right, because that is what grandparents are for.
So yes, organizing things is sometimes a bit of a problem. I think every parent will agree to that. And it must be much harder even for single parents. Any help in solving those problems is welcome. But just taking the children away from the parents for entire days cannot be the solution.
It would not be good for me as a parent, and I firmly believe it would not be good for my child.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who the &$@%$ has ever elected thes Ê#%&^#$&#, I'm shure it wasn't me.

But about daycare:
We (J and Me) are discusing children. We believe that one off the parents should be at home with the children. But I'm not shure if it is a realistic plan.
There will be daycare for our kids, if only becouse at a certain age contact with other childeren is verry good for them. I still have to do some reading to know from wich age this is.

Another #$^*$ plan of our government was to stop with morgage interest as a tax deducable. Wich would mean that lots of people would pay between way more a month more for their homes.
(in our case just under 300 euro's a month more)
In short it would mean that our econemy would Crash and Burn. For once I'm happy with the VVD, the are not even discussing this. But on all other acounts they are ^%^#$(

Of what I remember of the time I had to stay over at school during lunch time and go to a "babysitter" after school until my father or mother came to pick me and my sisters up, I remember most that I hated it.

I'm glad for the years my mother stayed at home so I could go home when school was out. No more getting dumped in the care of classmate's mother I hated after getting suddenly ill at school, because my parents were at work and couldn't get there to take care of me either.

If I'll ever have children, I'll do my best to make sure they can go home anytime they need to.

That's far too long a time to stay in school. And there are plenty of things you can do after about the age of 5.
