London bombed: the very very short version
Jul. 8th, 2005 09:50 amNew York had 9/11, and London had 7/7: bombs in the subway. Last death toll I heard was 75. I don't want to think about being trapped in an exploded subway carriage somewhere between Blaak and Beurs. I sure feel for all those people that have gotten hurt, wounded, or killed and their families.
But here's the very very short rant about it.
Our side:
OMG Bush is so right and we so need to take away ALL THE PRIVACY of the public and do random searches because everyone is scared shitless and want politics to do stuff about it so we make nonsense laws that will make victims of teh innocent. Teh Angst!!!
[/cynisism]
Their side:
WTF can you tell people who will kill people just because they believe something else than you do? You can't talk them out of it, you can't really find them, and though starting a war is about justified right around now, wars are BAD and should not happen period.
*sigh*

Date: 2005-07-08 01:42 am (UTC)it's strange we keep thinking about them vs. us. and also: young dutch muslim men/women are suddenly moving to the extremist side. what did holland do to make them choose violence ? what went wrong in their neighbourhoods. their family. how did their friends become radicals?
i think in a way everyone is to blame when it comes to these extremes becoming more and more the overruling power. i remember PvdB once told me in a one-to-one conversation about politics (back than the concern was pim f) that all excesses will be terminated in a good democracy. dutch young kids turning to extremists can only mean our democracy is failing since it can not errase the extremes it did in the days of Janmaat. He wasn't even considered dangerous, while pim f was.. its all in the democracy and the ruling force.
almost half of our country is muslim (ok maybe less i don't know) why are they not represented in the goverment? they should have a voice too, so they don't seak a way to let their underpressed voice be heard.
long long comment i know. :)
