A christmas gift, well used
Jun. 20th, 2005 09:46 amRemember last Christmas? NoKey was ill, and I went to my father's place alone. And because Detty is German, they adopted the habit of giving presents. Well, our present was a whopping total of € 75,- in dinner coupons. So we'd been puzzling about what to do with them exactly, when I had a great idea. To spend that amount on money, you're going to have to eat really expensive with two persons, or invite more people. (or spend less then all € 75.-, after all there were three coupons of each € 25,- but that would be cheating).
So I figured we'd take Sjiva and Voltar out to dinner somewhere. I hadn't really seen them in a while, and having food is always good. Better share these coupons with people you like, right?
NoKey then suggested we go to Ming Garden in South Rotterdam, a Chinese restaurant that does Menu du Chef, where the chef cooks something delicious for you, according to your diet and budget. ("Err... anything without fish, for 30 euro" for example). The chef then makes you a menu of entrees and main course according to your choice and budget. So I called my dad to see if I could borrow his car, but it was in the shop. So Ming Garden was out. We then decided to go to Woo Ping, a Chinese/Thai restaurant in Schiedam, near where Voltar and Sjiva live. It was a good walk in blistering sun (*hisss*) but the place was wonderfully air-conditioned. It had fish in a tank too! And a bonsai tree which I could hug with just my index finger and thumb! Teehee!
We found out that Woo Ping did a surprise menu too, and we decided we'd go for a surprise menu without fish, with room for one vegetarian. First course was Thai soup. It was hottt and made my nose run. I love food that does a good rinse of the sinuses alright. Then came entree's: some fried pancake-like dough, little spring rolls, all very yum indeed. The main course was mihoen, nasi and bami with duck, bacon, babi pangang, chicken and for NoKey Thai egg and tahoe/tofu. We had plenty of food and it was all very yum still. Good food. Afterwards we got coffee on the house and candy, chinese tea, and two fans. We spent about fifty euro more than the coupons, but it was worth it!
So that was good, and I was quite sorry not to have taken my camera along for you all to show what goodies we had. Mmmm.
Today I'll be going to Schröder with Sjiva, I need to pick up some black velvet if they still have some, and some fuchsia silk for my mother, and whatever else takes my fancy. Not that I have time to sew stuff for me, ofcourse, but that's beside the point. I'll take my camera along and see if it likes taking pictures of my coffee and my silks.
The weather is going to be too frelling hot again... bah. I hate weather this warm. Give me 25 degrees Celsius max, with a cool breeze and I'm fine. Anything above that is too hot. I was up and awake because of this weather before seven am.
EDIT: it's perfect weather to wear my Converse All Stars again, my Chucks, they have extra ventilation holes!

Date: 2005-06-20 01:27 am (UTC)I'm not sure what the name of the street is, but it is the one with a canal in the middle, running at straight angles from the Weena opposite the station. The restaurant is about five to ten minutes walking away from the station, on the left hand side (past Schouwburgplein and the Pauluskerk)

Date: 2005-06-20 03:13 am (UTC)We'll keep it in mind. Maybe we should test each and every one of the Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and other Oriental restaurants and rate them...
...maybe not. That's gotta be a lotta work.
