Is it very scary that when I first heard "what's hideous" (a new song on 3FM), my brain thought they sang "Darth Sidious"? Weird Al anyone?

Also, I've discovered there are four ways to sew cotton velvet:
- The Alastor Moody way (CONSTANT VIGILENCE!)
- The 'let's pin and hope it works out' way
- The pin-baste-glue-sit-on-it way (anything to stop it from escaping the needle)
- and my way.

I got the 'let's pin and hope' thing for almost all my costumes, except the ones where mum does a rush job on them for me and all...this of course caused one of my dresses to fold around me in a bit of a baggy shapeless way.

What's your way in any case?

Not doing much about it, except for the very heavy curves, and just hold a finger in between layers so it won't run away.

Have we met?

I find velvet very easy to work with.... afterwards it looks like my sewing machine has a five 'o clock shadow :) I often baste in case of last fitting and I prefer my own basting to the machines for gathering.

Do you use cotton velvet, the heavy theathre-drape kind, or the thing gothics use? One stretches a lot, the other not at all.

I use the heavier kind and not the stretchy. And I'm sure by 'what goth(ic)s use' you mean: what the generic gothic dress is created with *grin* ;)
At the moment I mostly use the nice and heavy cotton velvet, the only thing I've used stretching velvet for were sleaves and only because I couldn't find the perfect color in heavier velvet.
