Usually, when I'm sewing on a dress, I get so much cloth all over the table it's hard to find out where you are. Or where the seam you wanted to do, is. This even goes for some tunics too. In any case, it's become a regular phrase between
steelweaver and me, when we're sewing on something, that our projects need maps to tell us where we are.
And so again this last Friday. She worked on her sleeves, I worked on my shift/smock whatever. The pattern of the latter is usually just squares and triangles. Imagine having to weave your own cloth. You'd not want to waste a lot of it. So you use it all in the smartest way possible. With squares and triangles, you can make a very wide dress with fitted top and fitted sleeves, which you can still raise over your head, without wasting any cloth. Still, you'd have to weave 3 meters of fabric, but that's not too much of a deal. Even though you only use three meters of cloth, you'd still get a very wide dress. And ofcourse I got lost. The thing was done quickly enough though, and I threw it in the washing machine to shrink. 100% cotton, 95 degrees, go forth and shrinketh.
Twilight, Steelweavers' boyfriend, also came over for a quick sew and wrestled with buttonholes for his wonderful flared sleeveless dragonhide overcoat. My machine's transport is sketchy with thicker fabrics, and I probably should bring it to Matson's for a big cleanup (even though I still have the warranty until August).
I cut out the overdress for the shift I just made, but haven't continued on it all weekend. Grey is so not my colour and wool is so not my favorite fabric. Still, it looks gorgeous and period-correct.
Saturday NoKey and I strung up our staves and did a finishing layer of fixating stuff. I had a bit of a cleaning spree and then afterwards we played some Doom on the LAN. And on Sunday we continued on the new levels since we'd finished all the original episodes. DOS games galore, or something. I've started on a spreadsheet in Kspread to keep track of what levels we played and how much fun they were. Some are impossible to play in cooperative mode, some require god mode. Others are just ingeneous. Cramped levels, which are really much like buildings, and with hidden teleporters. I loved that Xeno11 level I played last night.
I also managed to tear myself away from the computer for a short while to make myself some new pyjama's. I love those dress-like pj's, and copied the length and width from my favorite purple one onto the pattern of a camisole NoKey once designed for me and came up with a lovely microfiber purple nightdressy thing. I hemmed it with the lockmachine, and will add blue strech gross-grain bias tape as straps.
In any case, Doom's for the weekends, and I will have to start on some orders. First vacuuming and making more coffee.
