Wave goodbye now...
Dec. 14th, 2004 09:27 amNot only does the Dutch government help Microsoft gain a monopoly position when it comes to community computer systems, wave goodbye to your privacy now, like the good child you are.
I need to re-read 1984.
Speaking of "Oh no! The world has gone mad!", I've been wondering whether politics would have been a career for me. Ofcourse I'd get shot before I'd make it to parliament, but that's just Dutch mentality or something. But listening to the people who are currently working there in Den Haag for us, the people....jeez. Yesterday in the news they said that 'obtaining the Dutch nationality' should become more of a grand thing, like receiving a prize. The plans the Tweede Kamer has are mostly ludicrous. Next year, the elderly who receive an AOW-uitkering (Algemene Ouderdoms Wet uitkering: Common Age Law fee, it's a law that states that if you are elderly you have the right to get a small fee per month to live on) will be the ones who will have the worst problems, they will have to pay more. I never heard the politicians say "let's tax those who have two cars or more than one house". The rich stay rich, and the poor and dependant are trashed.
Of course, if you start taxing those who can afford to be taxed, you won't be re-elected. That's why the VVD still exists.
My mother rightfully stated "the people that helped rebuild the country after WWII are now being backstabbed".
It's the difference between the USA and Canada mentality. In the USA, fear rules. People have a Smith & Weston under their pillow because of those danged junkie trash hippies. In Canada, people chill. In the USA, people make a lot of rules and prescriptions for something, because then you can disable your common sense.
On my new lockmachine, there were safety rules. Canada and Australia's sections together had half a page. USA had an entire page. It included rules as "do not try to reach for a lockmachine that has fallen into water". I mean. EYFB! ENGAGE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN!
Sadly, Holland starts to look more like the USA than like Canada. Also because if you don't write down something's illegal, people willmake it legal take advantage of it.
I wish 'the world' would just EYFB and look around them. Lend a hand to a struggling neigbour. Reason.
I wish for propaganda. And a working police force to punish those that do not EYFB and take advantage of others.
A Great Day For Freedom - Pink Floyd
On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived
On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground
Promises lit up the night light doves in flight
I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you
Not life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbors turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone
Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of grey
I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitter residues slipped away...slipped away

There are, I'm sure. If there's a loophole, people will take advantage of it. >:-(
