Lands In Exile Special.
Dec. 6th, 2004 11:25 amThe Lands In Exile Special we had this Saturday was fun. My character got fucked over by the organisers though, and I wasn't pleased. From a mage who mastered low and high magic and had 14 spells, she got degraded to a mage who knew only five spells, and then found out magic didn't work for the last month or two. In other words: she was fucking useless.
All in all, the forests were nice, it was good to be Xan again, with Treesong and Thentro by my side.
It was a surprise to see so many people there. There were about 20 players, and there were a lot of props. Almost as many as with a normal LIE live. At the weapons-check my new dagger "Blood" was turned down. It squeaked at the tip and it was too hard on the top.
Joral being highly sceptical towards the talking tree: No shit. The tree talks?
We went in character, Treesong, Thentro and I took along Philippe, Bern, Joral and another archer and traipsed into the forest. Joral and Philippe tagged along on the presumption we were going to go away from the village to see if the magic worked when we were a few miles away. We first encountered beasts with a mage-like man. He demanded to know "if we had IT!" and that we should just hand "it" over. Asking him what "it" was didn't help, and we found ourselves being attacked by the creatures. The poor beasts were killed, and Thentro and I mourned their deaths.
We then continued to the Grove of the Archdruid. Joral was introduced to him. The Archdruid, being an immensely old tree, expressed his gratitude that we returned, and welcomed Joral. We were allowed to ask him questions. Every time Xan enters that Grove, especially since he reminded her of Ironbark, she is silenced by this wonderful feeling of awe. Not just awe. AWE!!!! Like Treesong, she thinks he's a half-god. Or something. She's very shy around the Archdruid, and asked him about the Darangu. The Archdruid said it was an essence of the forest. It wouldn't show itself without reason. Combined with the fact that the mages in the guild fear it because they don't know exactly what the Darangu is, Xan is intrigued by the Darangu.
Thentro asked about his sister and heard she was happy. Then he asked for help with growing a staff. The Archdruid told us to seek out the grove of the roses, where the ironwood tree stood. He told us we would find a goblin who would lead us to it.
We found the goblin allright. She was building a sand castle. She didn't want our help with it, and didn't respond to offers of food. In the distance, another troup of animals with a master appeared, and Joral, Philippe, Thentro, and Treesong charged them. These were considerably stronger, and though they asked me to remain with the goblin, I ran to their help when I saw them being clubbed down. Luckily, Flaky (the fairy) was in the neighbourhood, and he healed all of them. We gave him chocolate, and then went back to the goblin. Flaky had said that we should just destroy her castle and that she would listen then, so we did. She led us to the next dilemma.
A large hedge of roses. The path we followed led to a form of step-stones through the hedge. Sadly, the thorns were poisenous. Joral went through fast, followed by Treesong. Then I went, and I got stung. I fell down and got scratched some more. Then Bern and Micheal the archers came to my, and Thentro's, rescue. Finally, they healed Thentro, and buried me safely out of sight under a patch of leaves, so that I would be safe until they returned.
That moment I was teleported to a black room. There was a black-clad figure opposite me. He asked me questions. I answered the first two, and then aksed him who he was. "I am Tarot" he said. The archdruid had mentioned Tarot as being a form of Magic. I then asked Tarot why I was being tested, and he said that I could answer the questions, or I could return and never perform magic ever again. I answered the rest of the questions, and received my powers.
(They screwed up here and said I would do Druid magic, but that was rectified back to Pentacle magic later *sigh*).
Meanwhile, Treesong and Thentro (and the rest) were talking with the Ironwood tree who was just plain evil. In the end Treesong got the seed he wanted, and also became cursed in the process. Yaaaay. Then they came back to collect me. I healed my wounds and was standing at the thorn hedge waiting for them when they came out. I still had Mummy-rot on my arm and leg, but later Treesong got me a herb that cured me.
Later that night some beacons appeared outside. Each had the sign of Tarot, and Joral managed to ignite his beacon. It felt good, he said, and I ignited the pentacle beacon. Sadly, the beacons later disappeared when Scythe became present. I managed to borrow a scroll of the scythe magician and quickly copied it. It spoke of scythe stealing power from the other four.

We had some run-ins with a dagger that probably became scythe, and tried to determine what it was. We poured a lot of ritual mana into a ritual in the Grove, only to find out it was attacking Treesong. We immediately quit the ritual when the dagger went tip-first into the soil of the Grove.
Treesong had spoken to the Archdruid again, and found out he was cursed. The images on Philippe, Micheal, Thentro, and my forehead were a sign of Nastria. The curse on Treesong would make the evil inside him come out. Nastria promised to help us, and gave us a sign. We'll have to deal with that later, because we were very tired back then.
The rest of the evening was quiet, until they brought in a dead Father Darran. I shared some mead and then went to bed. Suus and Rembrand gave us a ride home.
I'm quite sad about the loss of spells, but I suppose now I have something to work for. Yay, another thing to do. I am still hopeful to one day meet the Darangu, and Joral said he'd like to see me as head of the mage's guild. I'm quite bummed about the dagger not being safe. It wasn't tested at Formanterra (besides, I don't trust the Cauldron weapons check one bit since that e-mail I got back from Shadowrifts), but Ragar approved of it. Haven't used it. *sulk*
