There. I've just finished the leather section of the new Dolle Griet website. Meanwhile, I had the four browsers that are available to me, open to preview it. It's scary that Netscape, Mozilla and its daughter Fireox all underline links where I don't want them to, and that Konqeror is the only browser that makes the page look good. I have no idea what it looks like in Internet Explorer, because I haven't booted Windows since the Triganda Fair (when Xs4all thought we were infected with a virus and pulled our plugs).

In any case, I need a break from htmling, so I thought about writing my new character's background. Gwen. I won't name her Guinevere but Gwenhyfar is an option as is Gwendolyn and just plain Gwen. I think I'll grab some Gaelic names from my standard name-generator. I can't write much of a background until I know the new Shiverz Symbols setting, but I can make a start.

Oooo. Roger Glover just booted forward in Winamp. Whee!

My back is still sore, though sitting in my desk chair is the best solution so far. I really ph34r the sewing machine, so I won't try sewing just yet. NoKey's massage of last night was nice, but didn't really help (yet). I can hardly wipe my own ass and that's getting pretty annoying already. And I was surprised by having my period this morning. I had been so busy I totally forgot it's my stop week so yeah, I was surprised. That gives me a valid excuse to shower a lot.

So sewing is out for the time being, but I can still knit and do cross-stitching. I'd started on the embroidery on Gwen's blouse, but I think it's too small so I'll demolish what I had embroidered so far and start over on something larger, perhaps even Aida (much harder to unravel than evenweave but this is just too darned small).
I'm pretty bummed I still don't have a present for NoKey's birthday...

So. Symbols. Because of the level of 'lolplay' on Shiverz they decided to throw the current setting out of the window and start with a larp that has real roleplay, everything that happens has a reason, and no characters of the previous Shiverz can come. In other words, just because Wouter is sick of being SL, Anna has to die. I am, ofcourse, very sad about this. It's not just the fact that Shiverz will change, but because I can't play her anywhere else. She is so much affected by the things that happened on the three Shiverz I played with her. She's grown very butch, for one (there's not a skill I wanted to buy, because Anna was the perfect ranger). She entered that world as a closed personality, who was very frightened to trust anyone and still was traumatized by the murder of her family. And at Shiverz she found a paladin who opened her shell, another paladin she fell in love with... She met Argh and the satyrs and her love with Ravian developed. All that will fall away when I take her along to another larp. No Ravian, no Argh, not even the Satyrs. And, what is worse: the fact that Shiverz was on an ice-world and there was only one green valley prevented Anna from running into the forest to live on her own without human contact. When I take Anna to, say, Shadowrifts, she will soon disappear into the heart of the forest, outside the reach of even the elves there, and never return to the human world. Especially because her one true love isn't there anymore to keep her in the village.

I'm quite angry and sad about this fact. Every spring and autumn, when Shiverz would play, Anna would stir. And I'm afraid I'll lose her. Gwen will be fun to play, but she would seem so hollow. So unreal. It kind of feels like betraying Anna.
I'm sure I will play another ranger - they're my favourite class to play - but they won't be like Anna.
On the other hand, I will be able to write "the Memories of Anna Vay" where she sits around the fire in the longhouse, with the children of the village around her feet and tells the stories of all the drow she killed and all the orcs she slaughtered.

*sigh*

Okay, bored now.

Darn, I loved playing Thaliana eventhough she was so unlike (or like) me. I've heard zip about Shiverz for quite a while. It's a real bummer they are going to start with something completely different with no option to play your old character. (Though I admit the Imperito-Imperiel story line was quite soapy.)

I don't know if I will play at the new larp. If I do, I'll come for the people I know and not so much for the characters and story. *snif*

Hey, shiverz might still happen, it's in the hands of a few people now, with wouter still doing their financial & equipment stuff, but i just haven't heard of them yet. So not all is lost yet.
symbols is more or less a new project, which might just co-exist with shiverz (which, again, depends on those in charge of shiverz atm)

So don't mothball Anna Vay just yet!

That's really too bad about Shivers. Plus, I don't think it will solve the 'lolplaying' to any degree. They'll still have the same group of players, more or less, and I don't think the players' attitude will change because of a change of setting.

Of course SL could monitor the new characters, making sure they are all serious...which they might as well have done in the first place, or they could do even now. Add a couple of really powerful NPC's with absolutely no sense of humor and you're rid of all the joker chars. No need to bomb the whole setting.

So, I'm guessing there are other reasons as well.

Hsve you tried sitting in your computer chair while sewing? I'm guessing you get your backache from sitting hunched over, or in an otherwise unhealthy position. You might want to pay attention to the position you are working in. A few pointers (hope you don't mind):
-sit with a straight back, and keep both feet supported (one on the floor and one on the pedal)
-find a table low enough for you to be able to hold your lower arms at a comfortable working height.
-place the sewing machine so that you sit straight in front of the needle.

Hope this is of some help...
