Pop-ups are teh 3n3my
Nov. 22nd, 2004 11:01 amToday's drama could be called: "If you think pop-ups are annoying..." or "You should've switched long ago" or "IE will take you straight to hell and never bring you back" or "told you!"
This I found on Slashdot. Though I dare say none of you are infected, it does point out how bad viruses get on the internet nowadays. Beware!
Read it here.
I suggest you switch to Mozilla - if you haven't already - now,

Date: 2004-11-22 04:50 pm (UTC)I also found out that my computer had been infected by numbers of adware and spyware programs (but not by real virusses, yet) during my pre-Mozilla life.
So I payed 80 euro for a program to protect my computer and get rid of the adware and spyware on my computer. Now I am not poor, but 80 euro is quite a bit of money for me.
I found out that my new expensive security center and Mozilla did not get along. At all.
Since I payed a lot of money for the security center and nothing for Mozilla, I uninstalled Mozilla and took MickeySoft InternetExplorer back into my arms.
Unfortunatley, the expensive security center did not get along with IE either. Also, it did not get along with my games, or my CD burner.
I tried changing all the parameters, but still the security center would make my machine crash if I A: surfed the internet, B: played a game, or C: tried to burn a CD.
So I uninstalled the security center. A damned waste of 80 euro.
And now I realize I am using MickeySoft Internet Explorer without any protection or viruskiller.
What should I do? Install Mozilla again?

Date: 2004-11-22 06:27 pm (UTC)I believe “ad-aware” and “Spybot Search & Destroy” are for free. They both take on (different) spyware although ad-aware does not seem to be working anymore on my computer.
There’s also a good virus scanner for free (last time I checked) called Panda. (Google for “Panda virus scanner”)
That should help a little bit for free.
