I....am.....awake?
Jul. 5th, 2004 10:45 amWe made some candles yesterday again. Our equipment for this just keeps improving. We took an old pan of mine and an old spoon, to put inside the bain-marie. Much better than the tin can and chopsticks, right? NoKey is great in candle-maintenance, he just fixes up old candles that are about to drown themselves, and puts a new wick in so they're bound to last longer.
I sorted the three bags of candlewax
pasje got us: red, pink and purple, blue and green, yellow and white. There were a lot of candles that were still perfect for burning, so I managed to salvage a nice supply (we were running out). Ofcourse, all the hideous christmassy, santa-covered candles are just going to be molten, but some candles weren't even bent! We salvaged some wicks too, from the bent candles, because that's the only thing we don't have a good source for yet.
After that, I read NoKey a lot of Harry Potter (we're reading all books and watching the movies too. The books are, of course, better). Spending time in the bedroom reading is our newest favourite pastime, since NoKey has a horrible affliction that causes a wound on his lip, which means I can't kiss him without infecting myself. I can only kiss him on other surfaces, nowhere near his lips. And he can't kiss me at all. It's horrible, and it's going to last at least another five days, and I'm being optimistic here. It's hell on our sex-life, that's for sure, and as my period is due to kick in today, I might not be in a good mood for the coming week.
In other news, I'm running out of cloth, and will have to visit the market tomorrow. Before that time I hope to finish NoKey's new hakema, and make a cloak out of that green stuff I've been having around here for ages now.
Meanwhile, I made a start on Sasara's background. I have been married. To a guy named Willim! *giggles*

Date: 2004-07-05 09:36 am (UTC)I think the wick can just be any old piece of string. Toilet paper works great too, if you're a pyro like me (but I imagine the candles wouldn't last very long then).
bent candles?

Date: 2004-07-05 10:22 am (UTC)I have a mold for candles, we use a thick glass one, which just lets go when you heat it but isn't too pretty, and I have a pyramid plastic one, which was made for this. You pull the wick out of the hole in the bottom. It's a mess, though, because even though the wick fits perfectly, candlewax will get through.

Date: 2004-07-05 01:36 pm (UTC)Of course it's abroad and all that, but prices seem to be very reasonable and you get to pick your own scents from a long list of options. They also have beeswax and bee-friendly low soot soy wax, if you ever feel like experimenting. Goods tutorials too. And no, they're not paying me:)
