Tiscali Internet
Jun. 25th, 2004 11:55 amI had, in Veenendaal, a Tiscali ADSL contract. NoKey plugged it in, and I could happily surf 'n chat. And when I moved in here, I wrote a polite letter saying I wouldn't need their service anymore and if they'd be so kind as to cancel my contract by May 1st. I received a reply that my connection would be terminated as of April 15th.
Fine.
Then, beginning of June (when I started internetbanking) I found out they were still collecting money from my account. So I sent them an e-mail. Polite, to the point: My adsl connection was terminated as of April 15, so why do you keep on stealing my money?
A reply came ten whole days later, and it was a standard reply that was copy-pasted from the FAQ, section 'facturen'.
I don't hold with that.
So I wrote them a pretty subdued but clearly cynical e-mail saying that this reply of theirs did not answer my cleary stated, well-formed question, and that the original message was below and whether they could find it in their [black little] hearts to really answer it this time.
This time, a Real Person glanced at my mail. And e-mailed back. "If you can give us proof that your connection was terminated we will refund." I laughed out loud, scanned the letter stating it was terminated by April 15th, in a nice resolution (say a 1500x1500 pix image so they would surely be able to find the highlighted bit that said it was terminated). And that was a few days before the Fantasy Fair.
From Tiscali, all was silent. And yesterday when I logged onto Internet banking, I saw they had again taken money from my account. In total, they had Eur 90.-- (give or take nine cents) which rightfully were mine! So I got myself a survivalkit, dialed their service centre and sat down for the Long Wait Before Actual Human Communication.
About ten minutes in the phonequeue made sure that survival kit was soon depleted, and I was getting low on reserves. The Nice Man In The Phone Computer said there were more than 1 persons waiting before me. More than 1? like 2? or more like 20? Jeez...
At last. Communication. A woman, stating her full name and the department she was working in. I clearly and calmly explained what had happened, and she replied that it was a year-contract and that the money would have to be paid until December. I said "how about this letter saying my contract and connection were terminated by April 15?"
I was put back on hold. For at least another five minutes. Then the littly missy returned from the lawyers at the legal department and in sad tones declared that indeed I would get my money back because of the error in the letter and that it should have been "December" in stead of April in there.
I then sucked up a bit, saying I never had any problems with Tiscali, and that only this was a big downer, and hung up.
Fine.
