Mom's wedding
Apr. 30th, 2004 12:17 pmYesterday, as said, my mom got married to her Luc. NoKey and I hitched a ride with a friend of hers, Wilma. We arrived in Steenwijk at 1.40 and had coffee at a hotel called the Golden Angel. There, I saw Henk and Marjan and Ruud and Yvon, so we had coffee together. At a quarter to three, we drove to Rams Woerthe, the jugendstil villa where the ceremony was to be held.

Sadly, cars of the guests, namely my brother's (one of the witnesses), and that of my mom's 'witch' friend Connie, were stuck in traffic near Gouda, where an accident had happened. We seemed to have just been in front of that rabble, but they were stuck square in the middle! I'm so sad that Jos missed the ceremony. This time he wasn't late because he could have helped it, but because of the circumstances (a first, I might add).
The room as well as the villa were so beautiful, I could just picture myself in a beautiful dress, opening the doors to the drawing room, asking our guests to please do come in...but my daydreaming was interrupted by the woman of the Steenwijkerlandse community. She was pretty cool, and did a great job at the ceremony (as far as I can tell, I haven't really ever visited a wedding before).
Mom and Luc were radiant, and I had to swallow a few tears of joy as they said their "ja-woord". The parents of Luc signed the marriage-contract, and then me, everybody taking pictures a-plenty. I went outside for a bit to call Jos and to see where he was, and NoKey stood at the street to point out where it all was. He was just in time to sign the marriage-contract. When we returned inside, I was greeted by relatives and friends from all sides of the family (with us, it's all a bit weird, since my father's brother was there too, with his wife and kids and their lovers as well), everybody wanted to shake my hand and we all hugged and it was all very happy and joyful!

When mom and Luc stepped outside, now fresh-&-newly-weds, they were greeted by a swarm of paper airplanes! The county prohibited rice, but paper airplanes (when later all picked up ofcourse) were okay. They really looked radiant, and Jos Wijse, a friend of my mom's, had brought a very old street organ, which he was playing when they came out.
We then drove to beautiful Nijeveen where the reception was, and everyone stood in line to present their gifts. Connie and her lover arrived too, so everyone was present.
My uncle and family had all worked on a model airplane out of wood or foam or I don't know...with a caravan behind it and a "just married" banner behind the caravan! Chris and Ysbrand, sister and brother-in-law to my mom, had made a "huwelijksbootje" with "boterbriefjes". And NoKey and I had made them...hum...well there's a whole philosophy there. See, parents don't have sex. Don't think that they do, because you're jeopardizing your mental health (if any). So, they don't have sex. Hence, the having of sex must be stimulated. NoKey and I had made them a Tarzan & Jane outfit to do just this. Pictures, of course, on my website.
Everybody presented the gifts, we had coffee and tea, and Jos Wijse played some more on his organ (an antique, I might add). Then NoKey and I played and sang some on his Takamine. And then the buffet was opened. First, salads and bread, and later the barbecue kicked in. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Connie occassionally had to help my mom get out of her dress when she had to go to the bathroom, but that's what she was bride's maid for.
After dinner, Wilma gathered us, we all said our goodbyes, and we drove home. NoKey was dead tired and showed us how sleeping in the back seat actually goes.
Today's the Queens' Day and people celebrate it all day or something. To me it just feels like a Sunday, and NoKey's tinkering on his bike. I think I need to distract him soon.
Oh, and like I told you: the dress is fuchsia!
