Well it's part of this series that until consists of 10 but will probably end at #12 in a few years. CoT is the most recently published, and each book has Tolkien quality and 800 pages.

Only if 'tolkien quality' means I really really want to put the book down and go to sleep instead (but I guess that's just me). I got past the prologue of Lord of Chaos and then decided to return it =P

But then, I also didn't like The Silmarillion much, and I won't even try reading the History of the Middle Earth.

I had an experience quite opposite yours. I just was an addict to these books until I finished part 10. Any lost 15 minutes were spent on them XD
And are you kidding me? Lord of Chaos was my favourite!
