The Return Of The King
Dec. 17th, 2003 02:18 pmAye, he's returned allright. No spoilers in this post, unless you haven't read the book or seen the first two yet (yes, I know they're out there...muggles...)
In the Elf we changed, and suddenly the humans who looked like they could possibly be muggles, transformed into figwits (2), Frodo, Elrond, Aragorn, Nazugul, and Arwen. Glueing on elf ears, putting on a warm cloak and then walking two blocks to the cinema rocked. Everyone turned to look at us, and especially Sna/Malor in his chainmail and plate armoured legs got lots of stares.
The cinema itself: red carpet out front, candles next to it, and upstairs a special room where we put down the bags. Then we went out to mingle. There are a few advantages to being 'official props for the cinema', you can put your bags down somewhere (with all the munchies) where it's safe, and you get free drinks if you can get back in the personell room.
Ofcourse, we were there to entertain the audience, and we arrived early (somewhere around fourish, I'd say). There was a local filmcrew, who shot an intro outside the cinema, with us in the background.
sna and
pasje got some screentime with the blonde irritating reporter (m) who had borrowed a hideous 'look-at-me-doing-the-evil-overlord-thingy' cloak in which he couldn't even sit down or walk properly. But then again, we are professionals. I walked around with Aragorn and Elrond, each leading me in their own way. We just smiled and nodded. On two occasions, Aragorn and the Nazgul fought eachother with their larp swords. Soon it was too busy for that.
We had good seats in the biggest theatre, surround sound and all. As soon as you just sat down, let it all wash over you and you'd be fine. Only, after the first prancing around my back hurt and the cinema chairs didn't help much.
Just after midnight, I got a cola, and sat down waiting for the movie. Most annoying was the people clapping. They clapped with the title. They clapped with the kiss. They clapped when one of the oliphaunts went down. They clapped at the wedding. And they clapped when the movie was over.
Truth be told, I didn't even cry. I had tears in my eyes when Boromir died (part I) and when Haldir died (part II), and during the third movie I had some rough moments as well. But I didn't really cry. I spent 15 minutes on that make-up, and then cry to ruin it?! NEVER! *grin*
As always, details caught my eye again. In FOTR, Gandalf is dancing with the hobbits at Bilbo's party, and in TTT I saw the trails the Black Gate had drawn in the ground when Sam Frodo and Gollum look at it from above. I probably missed a lot of details in ROTK as well. But I intend to see it a couple more times. I noticed some pretty amazing things (which I shall not mention in this post).
We were in bed at five, with bloodshot eyes, and ears filled with glue from the elven-ears, and very tired. But it was a damn good trip. It was awesome. And we'll appear in the Rotterdams Dagblad today.
Sna can say he saw ROTK in full Chain Mail And Plate Armour.
Pasje can say she saw ROTK as Real Frodo Baggins Incl. Sting And The One Ring
I can say I saw ROTK while wearing the Evenstar and sitting with one hell of a friendsclub. We're all lunatics. And I found this comic so appropriate. We definitely are of the last catagory.
