Any way or other forest path, here's the story of
~~Shadowrifts II~~
If anything is unclear at all, please don't hesitate to ask. Sometimes I intertwine this text with larp-jargon or dutch words.
Friday
After slowly getting up around noon, NoKey packed his bags and I shifted some clothes from one bag to the other and back again or something. We packed all foodstuff in a seperate plastic bag, and when Voltar arrived we dragged our shit'n'bags in the car. Voltar, being the only one with a drivers license, sat behind the wheel, and I was stuck between bags and a bow. Next to traffic jams and sandwiches we told eachother stories of our characters and I read the last piece of Styx' tale aloud to the Coos. [being Voltar and NoKey]
When we finally arrived (I hate traffic) it surprised me not many tents were set up yet, and we leisurly erected our own little houses for the weekend. I greeted many peeps I knew from other events or the previous SR (see my memories). Once everything was set up and my bed was ready, we changed into character outfits.
My total outfit (from undergarments up) was a shimmy (hemd), a sleeveless shirt, a thick knitted sweater, and my 'robe'. I also wore a fleece-like pair of trousers, kneehigh stockings, socks, and a gothic skirt with ofcourse my trusty kisten.
After a mandatory course of how to safely fight, and a weapons-check and the real check-in [here's your IC money, enjoy], after waiting for at least 45 minutes Asterix held his little chat and let the first players, and me with them, enter the 'city'.
In the forest, where the trees are less tightly growing together, a city was built. The tavern or inn was not far from the monstertent and toiletbuilding, and the farther you stepped away from your tent, the more trees surrounded you. Every 'tent' had a sign, stating exactly what kind of house it was. There was the House of Light (priests' guild), House Magister (mages' guild) House of Vials (Alchemists), Tomb of the veil (Necromancers), and then the camps of Order, Balance, the Orcs and clan Mantigrue in Chaos. My house, which wasn't built, was also there: a partytent laying in shambles on the floor. Since I let the Dwarves cut down a tree in front of the front door to deny access to all of the thieves who had virtually stolen everything (except for the curtains! HAH!) that could be stolen, this visrep was not so inaccurate at all.
I sat myself down in the inn, where Styx had her lodgings. Fictor, as I keep on calling the innkeeper, offered me a drink but I wasn't thirsty, and I read my witches' recipes over again.
After reading them again thoroughly, and making sure all of the pouches on my belt and especially the cauldron I carried with me were hardly visible, I made my way towards the house of the Necromancers. There I met up with Ilthar (Kaas) who told me the Chevalier would be tried that night. We walked to the stronghold of Order, and I spoke to Lord Thoronghil about this trial. We then decided to help our friend and find him a lawyer. They were nowhere to be found, but the House of Light proved helpful. I ran into a priest, Gilles something something, [NoKey] who agreed to put in a good word for the Chevalier.
We arrived back in the camp of Order just in time, and I had promised the Chevalier to take care of his sister Juliette [Femke]. She walked with me wherever I went, and we sat down to the side, where we had a good view of the trial. Juliette was kind of 'trapped in her own mind' and sang songs like "little duckie"
During the trial, it became obvious that the lawyer Lord Thoronghil had provided the Chevalier with, tried to blame witches for everything that had gone awry. I had to try really hard to keep a straight face (for the potion that had caused this problem was provided to Angus by Styx!) but in the end, shock must have been visible on my face, as Lord Thoronghil ruled that all witches were outlawed. Anyone who would deliver a witch to camp Order would receive 50 kreydits (a great sum indeed) and the witch would be burned! The Chevalier only received minor punishment: namely that he should learn the laws of this city while he was a part of the House of Light.
After returning Juliette to the care of her brother, and lobbying a bit more (as Styx tends to do), I ran into our mother, leader of the coven. She told me a witch had been caught and handed to Order, where she was imprisoned and would be burned later that evening.
We agreed to go and try to enter camp Order to see how she was, who she was, and whether or not we could do something to help her. We saw from a distance that all people were kept outside the gates, and as my motherwitch turned around to talk to someone, I tried to pass some orcs who were blocking my road.
"Please, can I pass" I asked a large orc.
"No." he said
Well, that continued for a while, and then suddenly one of the orcs clubbed me from behind. One of them informed me that I was now being raped (in character ofcourse) by Zentab. I lay there and I was laughing, it was indeed great fun and good play, though Styx was not amused that she was unconscious.
Well, the witch was burned [wonderful special effects by
randallsilver], we couldn't do anything for her, and OC time was called and we had a large campfire.
NoKey got out his guitar, and we sang and drank mead until 6.30 am. Then we accompanied the Dragon to his tent and we slept until a few minutes after ten.
Are you still with me on this?
Saturday
After a breakfast with sloppy coffee (though without milk it is more drinkable, I found out), there was an attack of Shadow-creatures. I was at that time just outside camp Order, again, and when I saw the dozens of creatures trying to break in I shouted "open the gate let me in, there are monsters coming!"
With Aisha, I tried to upend a table to hide behind, but the thing was IC heavy and we both had strength 1, or so it seemed. We had a lot of trouble pushing the thing over. Lord Thoronghil send us to his private rooms, where we hid. Outside we heard shouts and screams and fighting, someone on the other side of the door kept the creatures out of the private quarters when they broke down the gate, and Aisha, Petunia the hobbit [Marga] and I hid trembling. When the fight was over, one monster was still alive, and I tried to interrogate him with the help of X [Edwin]. Though X chopped off the occasional finger and foot, the beast would not tell us more then "You will all die" and "You're as good as dead". I left the beast in the skilled hands of X (who killed it shortly after) and tried to inform the people of the Knowledge Council (Kremesh, Garland) about this.
I saw Gilles, the priest, run after two fairies and got really curious. But when I asked him what was going on and he changed, charmed me into playing tag with me, then grew bored with me and threw a fireball on my ass.
Soon, the mother of the coven took me and my sister Karlek into the forest, and we blessed and performed incantations on several potions to protect us. I spoke to the coven and told them Garland and Kremesh were against the witchhunt. Later I found out, many more opposed the outlawing of Witches.
When I returned there was a meeting of the Knowledge Council and many new faces were present. Kremesh [Malor] led the assembly, and discussed topics like the witchhunt but also about the monsters. The Council appointed me as spokesperson concerning the rifts. The best news of this meeting was that the Knowledge Council had agreed with Lord Thoronghil and the Faction Order that any witch that was delivered to them would be delivered to Knowledge, where the Knowledge Council would try them. No more burning, that was a good point.
I then ventured back to the slums, where I had collected Karlek [Kristel] before. This time, Larloch was a lot more cooperative and didn't shout at me. I spoke to Lord Kalvelar [Kristof], and he promised me protection in trade for lessons of Krey to his subjects. Though the lessons were slow, I saw two students were learning fast.
After nightfall and dinner back at the inn, I saw Juliette again. The Chevalier had subjected her to a series of tests and blessings fromde Lichtnicht the Priest of Light, and she was doing better. She told me she wanted to join the coven and I lobbied a bit with her too, not really revealing I was a part of the coven too.
Soon after, the witches gathered and we walked towards the graveyard. There we lit candles and initiated the ritual to welcome our new sisters (five new sisters!) into the coven.
At the end of the ritual though, a man appeared, the same man who had spoken to Karlek and me when we were welcomed into the coven. He told the mother she was thinking too much of herself, that she was too confident, and that she thought she didn't need her celestial lover anymore. And that we were wrong about that.
"I curse all of these women, that they can never feel love for a man anymore."
My jaw dropped, and all sisters looked shocked. But before we could recover from this shock and complete the ritual by blowing out the candles and collecting them, a group of people appeared from the forest, and stumbled upon our circle. I recognized city guards, and looked at Karlek. She grabbed my hand, and I called Juliette. The three of us, holding hands, ran into the forest, hoping we weren't followed, hoping we'd get away. Hoping we wouldn't be burned for the witches we are.
A few hundred yards into the forest, we fell to the forest floor, panting. The branches and leaves on the floor made a lot of noise if we walked and in the distance we could hear people closing in on us. We stopped moving, tried to breathe as silently as possible. After 30 minutes we came up with a good excuse for being in the forest "we were attacked by orcs! Help us!" and we made our way to the South, towards the house of the Thornelves. Not before long, they heard us, and shouted "who's there"
We replied scared "are you orcs? GO AWAY! Leave us alone! Haven't you done enough damage?!"
The Thorn Elves, noble as they are (and stupid) came to our rescue. My hero! We rested a bit in their house (until they were done shaving that poor dwarf's beard and hair), and then returned to the city, where Karlek was healed by the Priest of Light.
I found our mother and explained what had happened, and spoke to Karlek and Juliette about the ritual. We spent the rest of the evening in the cosy corner, in the company of among other nobles, Adim von Spiel. He donated 50 kreydits to me though...that was nice.
After an OC firedance, we all went to bed.
Sunday
There was no breakfast for us since we woke up at eleven, way late, but with a few cups of coffee and lunch coming up, I managed. Could have been the chocolate.
The news that the bloodmage who had challenged Kremesh the day before had sacrificed a few people, and then returned to his world, finally reached me. He had threatened to return with his masters, and I immediately sought out the camp of Order.
Sir Angus, or should I say General, received me and stated he could not spare the men to defend the city if that bloodmage would return, and this news greatly disturbed me.
None of the other people really helped out though, and then lunch was served at the Bloodball tournament. I ate, made pictures of the referee and the teams running for the skull, and then returned to the inn.
After some more lobbying in the village, I went back to camp Mantigrue for another lesson of Krey, but suddenly a demon appeared, with a priestess and his little 6"something friend. Cursing the camp, and anyone who had tried to pray to their god Tatterdamelion. Then, just as I ran into the forest, I was hunted by Skaven, who sprayed their poison all over me. I got healed soon enough though, luckily my mother had just taught me how to make a healing ointment.
During the final battle, I ran through the forest to hide from big monsters with large feet and crablike hands. I saw another priest [or mage, am not sure] have pain, and I made him a small drink with some herbs, which healed him a bit. Someone hit me on the head, though, and robbed all of my money and herbs. Luckily I wasn't badly wounded, and I didn't get hurt by any of the monsters.
So this is it, took me 90+ minutes to write, can't remember half of it but we had fun!
Shadowrifts III is in June 2004
By then, I hope to have an IC tent (home-made) for Styx' villa. All I have to do by then is let the dwarves cut the tree that is in front of the door into firewood.
Then the most funny thing I didn't mention earlier. Since my character was raped by orcs, I called in The Dragon, and we rolled a die on whether or not my character was pregnant or not. 1-3 : pregnant. 4-6 : not pregnant.
Guess what I rolled...
