Larp: Dragons Rift orcball tournament
Jun. 29th, 2003 02:52 pmOkay, so I'm in a writingvibe and feeeeeel the love streaming through my fingers into the keyboard.
Took a train to Nijmegen on Saturdaymorning way too early and then amazed people by dragging my blackclad arse with wristbraces into the train. They must have thought I was some weird metalbitch, at least that's the way people looked at me.
Inge droveher Cloudman's Suzuki (rock!) on the pavement, hauled my bags in and we drove to a turkish shop where we bought mucho cheapo bread. Then we hung "that way for the orcs" signs from the other trainstation to the cloister and we helped Roland, the Cloudman, and organizer out, before changing.
I was quickly briefed by Roland, he was to play the organizer of the tournament, Balthasar Roelandsson of Walburg. I was to play his little sister, Elisabeth Serena Roelandsdaughter of Walburg. I think. Names and me just collide. We leisurly entered the tournament field, Roland guiding me by my hand, me with Inge's umbrella. Rock! Anyway, my 'brother' arranged chairs for us, letting two players set them up at the sideline and we sat down. The first match was, well I don't really recall. But we sat there, Balthasar was referee and I sat there at his side, helping him out and watching the bulging muscles of team Testosterone. Four semi-clad barbarians who bashed more than really tried to score (except maybe with the gypsies).
There were five teams, Testosterone, Duh, Moe, Magic unlimited and the Gypsies.
Duh were united by their love of daggers; Moe were three cows and their shepherd; Magic unlimited featured magicians, and the Gypsies made everyone dance and seduced them to gain the ball. It was much fun.
Ofcourse, since our father won't let me be of the sword, I had been taught by Cerberus the court wizard (sorry @
cerberus, it was the first name that sprang to mind) who stutters, sometimes it took me weeks to get the incantation right. When one of the magicians was nagging about points I silenced him with a nice "Door mijn wil, ben je nu stil" spell [by my will you are silent now] for one minute. A fellow magician tried to take revenge by casting something of 'broken heartedness' on me, but thank goodness I had a counterspell "Door mijn magie werkt jouw spreuk lekker nie' " [by my magic your spell does not work"]. That was fun!
After some more fights, I had to change into the famous Blue Bunny Suit! In holland in the LARP scene, the blue bunny is famous, and I got to play "the Fluffster" or "Fluffy" or "Fluff Fluff" as it is lovingly called. Magic unlimited summoned me incantatum Fluffus Magnus when they had to play against Team Testosterone.
And there I was, a big brutal blue bunny, and the team captain (Inge) said "attack him!". The loudest mouth and biggest brute on the field, who kept on yelling and bashing everything, including the grass, with his club. Hilarical moments were when I copied his behaviour and we competed for who could shout the loudest. I jumped up and down, swinging a major two-handed sword over my head. We were quite a match, in the end we lay next to eachother on the field, grunting. I tried to lift my sword again, but it just fell back every time. That was fun too.
After a few more matches, I was plucked off the field for another role. And this I enjoyed. A banshee! Wearing my Morticia Addams goth dress (homemade, you know which one, Oz), talcpowder to make me pale, dark red lipstick and a black wig, I was transformed. Bas played a lich, who summoned me, after some player had stolen the skull they used as a ball. After the chainmailed guards, two zombies, I was summoned. "Her scream will make all life be silent, I summon you, banshee!" *evil laughter*. I screached and screamed, walked with flair and extended my hands to players. I especially went after Roland, because he looked like he was in charge. *grin* I really screamed loud (later I heard they thought somebody was being murdered *grin*). It really hurt my throat.
That was my final role and since all the cows were murdered and only two players survived, we just played some leisurely orcball. I changed into my Anna Vay tunic, and played along (for which i amnow paying a sour price: god I'm sore!) I butsed a lot with Roland, after which we took off our shoes and socks and did the Rumba, Quickstep, Samba, Cha Cha, Paso Doble, English Walz etc. on the field. Mmm-mmmm dancing again. He's a really good dancer and I have to tell you, if he wasn't spoken for...
And then we had campfire, after cleaning up. I played on my guitar (Winston) and sang along (with some effort). We drank Gonzales Aperitif and Sambucca, Mead and cola. I had brought marshmellows we roasted them in the fire. At two, we kicked the ashes over the flames and went to bed.
And this morning at ten, Gerard and Marjolein came over and picked up Inge Roland and Esther for Orcball. I went home - missed my train ofcourse.
Cloudman asked me to organize the next Dragons Rift tournament with him and I agreed.
I am grateful to be able to call these people my friends.
