Friday
I was picked up by Janou and her mom in the heart of Nijmegen. I very much appreciated the ride because I knew that where we were going to larp was in the middle of nowhere, with no trainstations or busstops whatsoever in the vicinity.

When I arrived in a little foggy rain, I quickly set up my tent with the help of other larpers. I found out that I forgot my mat (stupid silly me) and they gladly lend me one.
I was ready for play, as far as my tent was concerned. I then contacted Asterix whether or not I could set up my "house" already. After I helped JW and Jurn with the rifts-plastic, they helped me set up a villa from a whole bunch of "these might be this tent's poles".

Anyways, after more work and trying not to look at the rest of the play field, I went back to the campsite to hug many people I knew. I think most were sincerely happy to see me (with only one or two, the feeling was not mutual).
Many stories and hugs later I checked in and changed into my costume.

Since Styx already lived there, she was in her house when the players came through the rift. After looking around a bit, she went into the inn for a drink, and sat down in the VIP part, on some very comfortable cushions. Fictor, the innkeeper brought me something to drink and I asked him whether or not there were more people of my calibre in the inn. This is how I met the Chevalier de Prudhomme (played by Mr. Finn).
That night I tried to find many more people who supported the Knowledge faction. While the other factions were building up tents or making their ritualist circle, we talked in my villa about Knowledge and the world.

I tried to find more people who knew of herbs but they were – unfortunately – nowhere to be found. There were loads of people of Knowledge though, and we all came together to talk about wisdom and Knowledge when we weren't attacked.
Ah, yes, the attacks! Mists announced portals or rifts were opened, and often shadows or creatures came marching out, attacking us. That night, there was a meeting in Camp Order, with the leader of the Krey (krey are some race of elves), ruler of Chae'Dor. All of the factions were represented and many people were impatient. We decided that Knowledge would try to find more information in the ancient scribes about the rifts and how they could be controlled.

A silver goblet had been stolen from my house, and the two thieves were apprehended by the city guard. They fled when I checked my house to see whether it was really gone. At least I had the goblet back – for now.

Because the weather sucked and I was soaked – shoes trousers, skirt, and cloak – I didn't hang around in the inn like I normally do after 'time out' is called. I went straight to bed.

Saturday
The Dragon, who shared my tent, was called to make breakfast very early, but I decided to sleep a bit more. After a well-deserved breakfast, I got ready for another day of gaming.

I sat in the inn just after we were mostly ingame, and in came a woman with a cauldron in her hand. Now I had been searching for other people of Faction Knowledge for a reason. The rumour of a coven intrigued me, and though there was a lot of secrecy about this coven (one of the witches had been burnt because of her behaviour), I had tried to find other people with an interest for herbs. I asked this woman whether she used herbs in her cauldron and suggested we would go into my house to discuss it in a more private environment.

As soon as we were in my house, I was very nervous. After all, I didn't know much about this coven, and I didn't know how to be subtle. So I patiently waited and asked a question now and then about herbs. Erin, the woman, was quite reluctant but as she saw I was interested and sincere, not just about the coven but also about the substance in her cauldron, she told me she would see what she could do and speak to me later.
There was another execution of a greenskin, perhaps an orc or goblin, in the ritualist circle, and I had been talking to more people of Faction Knowledge about this, meeting with several Magicians, Necromancers and Alchemists.
Soon I found out some more items were stolen from my villa, and I reported this to the Faction Order. First, some candles disappeared, and then a jar with herbs (brambles for tea). Then somebody stole my lamp and even later, my entire house was plundered. Every time I returned to my house (Even though I am the daughter of the Marquis, that doesn't mean I sit in my house all day!) something else was missing.

In the afternoon, Erin approached me again. "The coven has agreed to meet with you, but there is something you must do first. You must prove you want to invest in the coven by finding three different herbs. You have until tonight."
Good. Now, I knew a lot about herbs, and where to find them. There was just this one teensy weensy ever so slight tiny detail. Woman alone, going into the wilderness, not a good idea. I sought out advice from my fellow faction-members. "Do you know who can lead me through the woods and guide me back home?" I asked the necromancer (played by Kaas. I don't know his IC name). "I believe the Elves as well as the Dwarves have guides with them."

Thus, I went into the Camp of Balance. I approached the Dwarves first, since the Thorn elves were busy with something else. I spoke to them in Dwarvish, and to my surprise they didn't even want to find out why I wanted to go into the woods. They grabbed their axes and started debating who would kill the most skaven. Soon after, they had provided me with a guide, four warriors and the hobbit, who wanted to see what herbs I could find, because she might be able to use them in a meal.
I found my herbs, but alas, there were no monsters to be attacked by the dwarves. As we set a course home, the guide came to a crossing. "Do you know which way we came from?" he asked a fellow bearded member. "You're the guide!" he replied. The guide smiled. "Ah, yes, now I remember. This way!" As he walked on, the other one mumbled something like "you promised not to do that anymore!" and we returned safely home. I gave the hobbit lady the assignment to make them a feast meal, worthy of their strength and provided her with 5 kreydits to pay for this meal.

After some more attacks, once even by a "construct" and other irregularities and thefts from my villa, I handed over the herbs to Erin, and she approved of them. "Tonight there will be a ritual. I will come and get you. There is one other woman who wants to join the coven, and she still hasn't found her component."
I complained to the lord of Krey when I found out somebody had smashed some furniture in my villa. I was semi-glad there was nothing of value in it anymore anyway. Then I returned to the dwarves, and ask them if they could assist me with something else. They nodded and chopped down a tree to block the entrance to my villa so that that which was left in there, could not be stolen (and yes, that was only the curtains and tablecloth, but then who cares…there's just no respect for nobles anymore!).

Just before dinner, the entire Faction Knowledge finally gathered in the former and roofless Alchemists' Tower. Garland of the house of Magicians led the meeting and explained that people who wanted to join the houses of Faction Knowledge, were to speak to the head of the houses. [Alchemists, Ritualists, Magicians, Priests, Necromancers, Librarians, Engineers, Witches].

After dinner I waited for a long time, but in the end Erin showed up, with her sisters of the coven. They were carrying candles and led the other woman [I am horrible with names, but her OC name is Kristel] and me to a place in the woods, not far from the town. There, she invoked the guardians of the watchtowers of the North, South, East and West.
A spirit came into our midst, and spoke with us both. He asked me why I wanted to join the coven. "Because I seek knowledge." "Knowledge can be found in many places, why do you want to be one of the coven?" Aiii….tough one. Sweat was beginning to form…why oh…"I seek a new family, because my own family is far away." This answer was satisfactory. The spirit returned to where he had come from, and then we completed the ritual by blowing out the candles.

We returned to the village, and in the inn Erin and I sat talking for a little while. I told her I had already bought some herbs I could use for the Amoras potion I already knew, but since my cauldron had been stolen I couldn't make it, and that I didn't know how to come by "Nachtschade" the final ingredient I needed. She proposed a trade. She had an Amoras potion and wanted to trade it for the two ingredients I had. The fact that I didn't have a cauldron persuaded me. We traded.

After she had gone to her house to sleep – such a ritual is tiresome – and I had talked with some other newly accepted members of Knowledge (Axel had been accepted to the house of Magicians, and Kaas had been accepted to the house of Necromancers), I went outside.
Suddenly, from my left, some strange fire beings appeared. I ran to my right, to hide behind the inn. I saw someone approaching, I looked back over my shoulder to see whether the creatures were close, and then I looked back and realised I was running right into the arms of more fire beings! I yelped, and tried to run away, but they had me surrounded. The only way I could get away was to either try and run through their ranks (with 12 metres of fabric in my entire wide costume and cloak, flapping around my ankles, that's not a good idea) or try to get back inside. They hit me a couple of times, twice on the arms, and once on my torso, before I could get inside. It took some effort finding a healer, but after I was healed, I retreated into my rented room in the inn.

Sunday
The coffee sucked Sundaymorning. It was so gross I threw it away. Nevertheless I could very well get ingame soon enough. Another raid/execution/ritual will just do that to a person. *grin*

First, there was a green-clad woman who was chased by the thorn elves, a child of the forest. She seemed to trust me, and said she wanted to learn. Her siblings appeared, a brother and sister, who were evil. The Thorn Elves demanded I would leave the child and that they would take over from there. After the child's consent, I let them lead her away. Though she didn't want to leave, she had to, to let the forest be in balance.

I can remember that all of a sudden Rain (sp? Played by Ohno) approached me, with my friend the Scotsman on his heels. The Scotsman was jabbering in Human, saying jibberish about being in love, etc.etc. I had to intervene to stop Rain from attacking Angus, but that soon changed. I asked Rain whether he had eaten or drunk anything and yes, they had had some juice just a while ago. Suddenly, a change came over him and he answered the scots plea's for kisses and hugs. They were madly in love, it seemed, and I figured it must have come from an Amoras potion.
"I want you two to promise me something."
"Sure"
"I want you to promise me to not draw your sword against eachother or harm eachother in any way." I said sternly.
"I would never dream of hurting him….he's the love of my life!"
Then I turned to the chevalier. "You are not to marry these two in the next hour."

When the potion's magic had decreased and the two came to me, seething with fury, I explained I had not sold anyone an Amoras potion and that I still had mine.
They wanted revenge.
They wanted to buy it.
They wanted to use it….and pay whatever was necessary.
So, for 20 kreydits it was their potion, and the former lovers joined forces to see that their craving of revenge was satisfied.

There were more monsters from the rifts, who had a madness they could pass on by touch. [Playing 'tag' *smile*]. I was tagged twice, but when they re-appeared later the sickness had worsened and it caused a paralysation!
When these were gone, I bought a nice necklace and some components at a merchant. Nice necklace. Makes me feel stronger. [Amulet of Power, Strength +1]

Soon after, Rain and Angus had challenged one of the ladies from Chaos to drink the potion, for fifty kreydits. The other half of the potion was drunk by the lady who had fed them the potion. I again, asked the chevalier not to marry them in the next hour, but he was offered a nice sum of money to perform the ritual, and married them.

Erin appeared, and took my sister and me into the forest to teach us a potion. We sat down in a nice place, and learned how to make a potion called "poison and anti-poison". That was very interesting. During the time we were in the forest, the Chevalier had been imprisoned for marrying the daughter of one of the higher elves of Order with a human of Chaos. Big crime.

Some of Chaos threw a jinx potion they had stolen from Erin into the camp of Order…luckily I recognized it and only one person was jinxed.

Later, I was just observing a ritual of the Crimson Moon with the Necromancer [Kaas], when something attacked me from behind. My throat was slit [torso –1] and I, being a noblewoman and all, fainted. Kaas healed me, but he was accused of attacking me by the Lizardman of Chaos who was standing there. Kaas backed off, and my throat was slit again! A ritualist of Crimson Moon (who were not a part of Knowledge by the way) healed me and brought me to. After asking Kaas whether or not he had attacked me, and believing his word, I sought out the leader of the Krey of Order again. I told him about the crimes committed against my person again [about the sixth time] and even his patience was running out. The lizardman came close to us, and suddenly he had a dagger on my throat. "What kind of lies do you tell about me?"
"I do not tell any lies about you" By the time I had replied, the order of Basilisk had drawn their weapon to defend me. This was soon solved as well, and they left while in the background the violent screams of a bloodball competition roared.

After this….it was over!
Low IC: "They broke into my villa…again!?"
High IC: "You are now a daughter of the Coven of Nyshra. Be welcome."

Low OC: I was not sufficiently briefed partly because some info was not up on the website yet, partly because I didn't have time to learn the briefing Migs sent me by heart. That worked out okay later...
High OC: As always…seeing Asterix, Axel, Brenda, Christof, The Dragon, Elinor, Gert, Jurn, JW, Maglok, Marijke, Matthijs, Mr. Finn, Quint, Rene, Sander, Wim, and Wouter again. Meeting new friends like Gijs, Ingrid, Kaas, Remie, and Wouter the Dark Hippy.

I have forgotten so much already…I can't possibly type out everything that has happened and I've had so much fun! I met very nice friends, talked to old friends once more, celebrated the fact that this weekend marked my larping for one year etc. Yes it's true. May 25th of 2001 was my first live, Moonblade III.

I returned home with Kaas, Sander and Rene, after long long talks, many hugs, a crying Asterix because he was so happy it was over and most things had gone so well, and gathering all my stolen vials and flasks and goblets again. At ten-thirty we left the campsite (as last, even Asterix had already left), at eleven-twenty I had the last train to Ede, and at midnight I was home.

I want Shadowrifts II!!!!

Moonblade III was your first LARP? That is the only Moonblade so far I did not visit.

Yep, that was my first alright.
I looked it up in my Memories, and it actually was May 20th, I believe.

Will you be there Saturday? DEW meeting?

Glad to hear you had fun *bows*
Next time you get attacked: tell Garland about it. I think he would not like to hear how people from the House of Knowledge are attacked ;-)

Darlann was dead, didn't you see the grave? :-P
And you don't want to meet Randall there.
And about Garland: he was there every day! And you even went to the meeting with him!

I saw him maybe two or three times, and talked to him twice. ;-)
But I'll tell him allright.

I wonder which grave Darllan was in. The gobbo's claimed to have switched the crosses except the one of Candydomus ;-).

Wow, neato. This makes me even more eager for the LARP (only one day) that I will be going to in July.
