Several things need mentioning.
Apr. 24th, 2003 10:45 amFirst of all, for the freaky friends out there who like weird facts, when I turned on my tv this morning to watch the news, it was still on Discovery (because it rocks!) and there was this thing on about old icons and the holy grale. This expert said that they used to call the Holy Grale "Angreal". Now that reminded me instantaneously of Robert Jordan. In his The Wheel of Time series he introduces the Angreal (angreal, sa'angreal, ter'angreal if I remember correctly), artifacts that can channel power. I thought
troglodyteking might have liked that fact. *smile*
Last night was fun. I left the room as the last person, and was picked up just at the end of the street by Josianne. We drove to Inge's room. Now Inge and Esther live in this totally radical cloister which was converted (if you'll excuse the word) to a student dorm. After we had fries we changed into fantasy attire and the three lovely ladies and the sterm Drow-Helga (me) went outside in the gardens to shoot some pictures. We agreed to meet up on Friday again and to travel to the fair together.
This morning I couldn't resist and bought stuff at Pro Art a show in the next street. I love that street. There's a carnaval-shop, a bookstore called "de Feeks" (the vixen, I think the translation is?), a comicshop called "de Noorman" (Noorman is another word for Viking), and Pro Art. They have loads of art stuff, crayons, pastels, books, cardboard. And beads. Feathers. SO I bought a lot of beads and so on for my costume for the fair. I actually have to go back there today. The gem I bought to fit on that ring doesn't fit.
Too bad I can't download the pictures from my camera just yet.
Tonight I have all these things to do. I have to change that tunic for Oz because tonight is the last night I'll have time to do that. I also HAVE to go shopping. My coffee needs milk, and I'm almost out of cheese. And I love cheese. I can't live without cheese. *sob*
After two days of full-time work behind a computer, my RSI is coming back. Today I've switched chairs but I know already that this chair is no good either. It's too low, which means I'm typing with my shoulders stressed. But at least now I can lay my arm down. It hurt last night, which is a bad sign.
I've had troubles with RSI before, and I know I have to be really careful. It has made me cautious. As soon as my arms start hurting when I'm relaxing, it's very bad news.
What else is new? Nothing much, really. I finished the article on erotica. I might even work on some digicam pictures. And my site at brinkster is dealing with extensive bandwith problems. It started yesterday and it's still not back up. Even though I changed the size of the pictures to 350 pixels max. *sob*

Date: 2003-04-30 11:47 pm (UTC)Hmm... "Noorman"? Well, it probably would actually be better translated as "Norseman" or "Norman" (the Normans where Scandinavians who first pillaged then settled in Northern France, and got the area named after them), both of which are holdovers from previous forms of "Northman" (man from the north, etc.). Especially since the term 'viking' does not denote a group of people (a common mistake), but in fact means something more like 'raider'. It is just that the Norse were frequently encountered by the English in the capacity of vikings. *smile*

Date: 2003-04-30 11:50 pm (UTC)I suspect it would be more correctly translated as "Norseman".
The term 'viking', although it probably fits here, actually only refers to Norse who were raiders, went out in their ships pillaging. The Scandinavian people were not vikings, just some of them went a viking, and so were called vikings. The were more correctly referred to as Northmen (or whatever the equivalent at the time was), which is perserved in English in the terms 'Norse' and 'Norman'.
