I finished reading ‘White Oleander’ on my way home. It’s a very good book, in English even more so than in Dutch. Though it has started my brains to rant again and I still wonder what “to redeem” and “redeemer” means. This has been bugging me since I first saw Queen of the Damned. Ah well. I’m just to lazy to look it up.

I think I’ll start on ‘Diamond Throne’ next, it’s supposed to be good. But I’ve also been meaning to re-read 1984 and I want to read the Silmarillion. Decisions decisions.

It feels like a Sunday but it’s really only just Saturday. That’s what happens when I get a holiday and plan so many neat stuff that I lose track of the days. Going out on Thursday and Friday didn’t seem to help either. I called my mom whether she wants to come over for tea tomorrow. It’s been ages since I’ve seen her. I’m planning my upcoming week carefully. Monday I have to visit the market for cloth and fabrics. Then, school, as well as Tuesday. Wednesday I want to go to Rotterdam, meet up with my stepmom for coffee or something and then buy army boots at the Dump. As far as Mr. Finn knew, it’s still there, and I neeeeeed black boots. Because on horror Friday I’ll travel to Oosterhoutbeekwhatever for Formanterra! It’s really near! I have to pack, work out, etc etc. Why do I make my weeks so stressful???

Anyway. To-do lits are good (o.O…[livejournal.com profile] ozjish’ influence becomes visible in my spelling!) for planning.

Saturday Finish cooking, eat, work. Hopefully not get blisters from my new shoes.
Sunday Clean house, do dishes, hope for mom to come over for tea, finish tale of Tis. Work.
MondayGo to market. Have drama presentation. Watch Tv-presentation of our items. E-mail Wouter. Print tale of Tis. Work on costumes. Work out.
TuesdayFollow classes. Be bored in school. Work on costumes. Work out. Do laundry so I can take clean clothes to larp.
Wednesday Buy IC boots, meet up with stepmom. Work on costumes. Work out.
ThursdayMake list of what to take to Larp. Follow classes & be bored in school. Play guitar. Work on costumes. Work out. Pack bags.
Friday Pack bags. Follow classes & be bored in school. Travel to Formanterra. Larp. Enjoy larp. Hehehehehehe….

I’ll be off now, eat and go to work. Byeies.

Just so you know. I'll email this blurb to you as well.

*starts to float through walls to annoy christian schoolmates*

You know, it's actually kind of fun seeing them do a last desperate attempt to save their souls by praying to their heavenly father.

Wankers.

Do you actually want some answer to your question (about 'to redeem')? I could try to present an answer to two.

I know the word! It's in a Christian song. One of the "titles" for Jesus, I think it means something like Saviour.
(Wonderful song, btw, *grins* At least, I think so)

p.s.
For some real useless information, I think the Greek word for Redeemer is "Sooter" (Sigma, Omega, Tau, Epsilon, Rho) *grins wide*

In a strict sense, 'to redeem' basically means something like 'to win or buy back' or some such, as in to regain possession of something. It can also mean more specifically to rescue or free (from captivity or bondage, etc.). Therefore, 'redeemer' would be 'one who redeems, one who wins or buys back'.

However, as your [livejournal.com profile] tamhavik pointed out, it is a term that has gained a distinct religious sense - that of spiritual rescue or saving. Jesus is often called 'the Redeemer', or people might say 'Jesus redeems our souls' or something like that, as in the sense of his sacrifice purchased back our souls from original sin, etc. It is not necessarily used solely for Jesus, though, it could be used for something else, or used with the deliberate intention of making one think of Jesus' role as savior, and therefore making the verb stronger than 'save' or 'rescue' or some such.

Also, it might be good to know that the noun form (which has an even stronger used spiritual, especially Christian, connotation) is 'redemption'.

Thanks.

By the way, [livejournal.com profile] tamhavik isn't mine. She's just a friend, you know. I don't own her or anything. *grin*

I was going to say 'your friend', but decided to put in the LJ name, and just forgot to delete the 'your'. *smile*
