I have a doubt (or two, or three)
Jan. 12th, 2021 03:35 pmWork is slow and work on my knitting projects, if possible, even slower. I've not been working on the Pumpkin Ale a lot, because apparently I really do not like cabling that much. It's a shame I finally figure that out after jumping into a cardigan with a full cabled back panel *twice*.
I'm this far in and still gnashing my teeth over how much more fun it would be to just knit a simple stockinette.

So I dove into the Ravelry database to find out what type of yarn this is, and if there are other patterns I might rather be knitting instead. A simple stockinette number with lovely details at the neckline is Sprig. I've seen it on Snorrepot's blog before and it's quite cute. Enough details to keep me interested in the beginning and a metric ass-ton of stockinette when I just need to keep going straight. I'm not sure yet whether this will be a better project to tackle, because I'm not particularly enjoying my other stockinette project at the moment, but that could just be my choice of series to watch while knitting.
Sprig would be lovely in the mid-blue yarn I have and the details would really pop, more so than in a darker yarn, so I might as well cast it on. I'm not 100% sure I would want to give up on the Pumpkin Ale yet, it is really quite lovely but that cable panel is killing my joy and the uncertainty about the size hasn't yet been resolved.
The other project on the needles, the Poison Oak top, is also aggravating me at the moment. The endless stockinette isn't boring me to death yet, but I am having massive second thoughts about the shape of it:

I'm roughly at the widest part of the bust now, wich means I can start on the waist shaping, but the whole shape of the garment is throwing me off. Any definition of where I am on the body should be taken solely from the back panel, because the front is (as the pattern is meant to do) shaped like a giant arrow. The point at the front is just a few centimeters above my navel, while at the side seams I am at the widest part of my bust and the reason this freaks me out is because I'm afraid the point will be dangling at my knee if the sides are just at the widest part of my hips.
And I'm not 100% sure that is a look I want to wear.
Secondly, I am again reminded that the "no 3mm cardigans rule" was instated for a reason, even on 3.5mm needles it is slow going. The uncertainty whether this is something I will wear is growing stronger with every row and I'm tempted to hold my yarn double, solve all of my dye bath problems and make a different thing altogether.
Thirdly, I hate that the ribbing at the neckline refuses to lie flat, which is not something I can fix unless I frog almost everything.
If I didn't just have my period I would think I'm PMS-ing, with all this uncertainty going around. Maybe I should just cast on a sock instead.
